F-word unbleeped on Family Guy - VIDEO

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 25th 2006 4:47PM
Family Guy F-word sceneThis is interesting: seems like Seth MacFarlane and company snuck the phrase "so fucking funny" into last night's episode of Family Guy, and FOX didn't catch it until it was too late. As you can hear in the clip (courtesy of the fine folks at Cartoons for Grown-Ups), the word is said pretty clearly, in a cutaway scene where Brian wonders what kind of jerk drives a Hummer. I was watching the show last night, and didn't notice the F-word, so I guess the standards guys at my local station were on top of things. But, as IMDb reported, the word indeed went through in a few markets.

Like I said, see for yourself after the jump. It's worth it just to watch the scene, which is pretty funny even without the f-word.

Uh the show isn't rated TV MA...Fox hasn't had a basic cable show (notice I'm not talking FX) that was rated TV MA in their primetime lineup since The Agent with Jay Mohr...even KCAL (an LA affiliate that Fox also owns) which carries South Park in Syndication cleans the episodes up enough so that they fit into the TV 14 distinction...Family Guy is TV 14, and while it may push those limits, it still is TV 14. Also, while the f-word is nothing new and shocking, in today's post-Janet Jackson world, the FCC is pretty hardcore about their content regulations. Family Guy didn't break down any barriers or forge new territory, the did a naughty and got away with it. It's almost cute.

I was watching it on NY Fox 5 and I'm pretty sure it was bleeped out.

I have no idea if my station bleeped it or not. I'm so used to hearing the word fuck that it wouldn't have registered.

Oh, and it was bleeped in the Philly market... I kind of wish I'd watched it on my NYC Fox channel (I get both, weird), I wonder if that's one of the markets it was aired.

Gentlemen, we got 20 calls regarding the F-bomb incident, and as you know one call equals a MILLION people. Therefore, 20 million people were offended!

Textbook Case, "South Park" has built entire episodes around an actual (talking) turd, in and out of the toilet. So that questionable taste/humor boundary has already been crossed, stomped on, and pretty much obliterated.

There's nothing offensive about the word to me, what's offensive is the idea that the word itself makes anything funnier. If it were sometime in the fist 1000 times I've heard it? Maybe, like when I was 13.

What would be really funny is if they maybe actually showed a turd in a toilet. Take that Puritans! Fight the power.

Re the FCC, here's a song for y'all:

Steve Earle
"F the CC"

I used to listen to the radio
And I don't guess they're listenin' to me no more
They talk too much but that's okay
I don't understand a single word they say

Piss and moan about the immigrants
But don't say nothin' about the president
A democracy don't work that way
I can say anything I wanna say

So fuck the FCC
Fuck the FBI
Fuck the CIA
Livin' in the motherfuckin' USA

People tell me that I'm paranoid
And I admit I'm gettin' pretty nervous, boy
It just gets tougher everyday
To sit around and watch it while it slips away

Been called a traitor and a patriot
Call me anything you want to but
Just don't forget your history
Dirty Lenny died so we could all be free

So fuck the FCC
Fuck the FBI
Fuck the CIA
Livin' in the motherfuckin' USA

Yea like I said on the actual recap thread of this episode, the one I...uh hum...downloaded was unbleeped, and it really took me by surprise. Because the downloads are usually something that's been recorded from someone's Tivo. So, it was really crazy. I bet there's some hefty fines that are going to be dished out. The thing I don't understand is why use it then? Like that? It was a stupid place to use it. If you're trying to make a statement or something, then use it in a part of the show and with a character we all care about. Seems like they're going to get in a lot of trouble over something that was really stupid to begin with.

Aaron.

They will clean up all your talking in a manner such as this
They will make you take a tinkle, when you want a take a piss
They will make you call fellatio a trouser friendly kiss
Here's the plain situation
There's no negotiation
With the fellas at the freakin' FCC!

They're as stuffy as the stuffiest of special interest groups
Make a joke about your bowels and they order in the troops
Any baby with a brain can tell them everybody poops
Take a tip, take a lesson
You'll never win by messin'
With the fellas at the freakin' FCC!

And if you find yourself with some young sexy thing
You're gonna have to do her with your ding-a-ling!
(Cause you can't say 'penis')

So they sent this little warning, they're prepared to do their worst
And they stuck it in your mailbox hoping you could be coerced
I could think of quite another place they should've stuck it first
They may just be neurotic, or possibly psychotic
They're the fellas at the freakin' FCC!
