The Five: New shows that are already getting old

justice castI tend to have very little patience with new television programs. I usually give them two or three episodes and then I tune out. I did that for Desperate Housewives during season one and I still don't regret canceling my Season Pass to that show. And now, this fall, I am doing it once again. I get all giddy over new shows that I think have a great premise, and then I get bored quickly. Apparently I can't handle more than 5 seconds of bad television. Here are The Five: New shows that are already getting old:

5. Heroes Just like Keith, I am not at all floored by this series. This week's pilot wasn't all that captivating and that's too bad because it's a freakin' brilliant idea for a show. The original version of the pilot, which was cleaned up a bit for air on Monday, was disjointed and hard to follow. It was also slow, which is what I fear for future episodes (which Keith say kinda suck). I really want this to be a good series. I am trying to will it to happen, but it's not looking good and I am quickly losing interest.

4. Jericho This was one of the few pilots that I didn't get to see before the fall television season began. Again, I liked the premise: a small town is cut off from the rest of the country after an apparent nuclear attack on major U.S. cities. But the execution was deplorable. The pilot had so many cheesy and stereotypical scenes (angry mob!) that I found myself rolling my eyes over and over. I'm so sorry to say this, because writing for a weekly show can't be easy, but it was all so vanilla. The characters' relationships with each other were so uncreative. I actually groaned when I saw the previews for the second episode, and I promptly canceled my Season Pass.

3. Standoff
How can this show sustain an entire season? Are there really multiple hostage crises in Los Angeles each and every day? It felt like the entire series was played out in the pilot. Not even the alluring power of Ron Livingston can get me to tune back in. I keep seeing promos and they just look like the same episode over and over.

2. The Class I thought the pilot for this new sitcom looked promising. I actually laughed out loud once or twice and I liked the premise of how all the characters came together. Then, I started to watch the second episode. Sadly, many of the actors on the show over-act. It's like they were giddy to be picked up after the pilot or something. Anyway, the timing was off during the second episode and the jokes just didn't seem as funny. I turned it off halfway through and I'm pretty sure I won't watch it again. I may soon make a personal rule not to watch sitcoms.

1. Justice I can't even begin to explain how happy I am that Justice is being put on hiatus. You see, I adored the pilot. Yes, Victor Garber is a bit much to handle, but I liked his brash character. My favorite part was the end where we get to see how the crime actually occured. Yeah, that was cool for, like, two episodes. And now I'm over it. We're only three episodes into the season and already it feels formulaic. I'm still reviewing the show for TV Squad, which is the only reason I don't hit the little curly button on my TiVo remote and skip to the end to see how the crime was actually committed.

I watch JERICHO every week and I think it gets better every time. That's all I had to say.

Anna-
What happened to the days when we gave new TV shows more than 2 episodes to prove if they were going to make it. Maybe some of these shows would be around for a little longer if the networks didn't put all the shows on the same nights. You're negative opinions are why I took you of my favorites and also why I no longer subscribe to the delta park project. But why do I bother, afterall, you liked Hoodwinked, I think that says it all.

JUST A NOTE TO THE NETWORKS. YOU NEED TO STOP REBROADCASTING MULTIPLE TIMES DURING THE SAME WEEK. EXAMPLE; THE NEW SHOW HEROES WAS AIRED ON A MONDAY I BELEIVE, THEN REAIRED THE SAME EPISODE ON FRIDAY WITH COMMERCIALS SAYING WATCH HEROES ON MONDAY NIGHT AT 9:00PM PEOPLE TUNING IN TO SEE IT CAN BECOME A BIT CONFUSED AS TO WHAT THE ACTUAL BROADCAST TIME IS . IF THAT HAPPENS THEY WILL JUST NOT BOTHER .ANOTHER EXAMPLE IS SMALLVILLE WHICH STARTED REBROADCASTING ON DIFFERENT DAYS DURING THE WEEK. YOU SHOULDN'T START RESHOWING OLD SHOWS BEFORE THE CURRANT SEASON HAS ENDED.OTHERWISE CONFUSION AS TO WHICH IS NEW WILL CAUSE PEOPLE TO JUST NOT WATCH. LUCKY YOU PUT THE ENTIRE SEASON ON DVD EACH YEAR IT HELPS KEEP UP WITH THE STORYLINE.

The only one on the list that I watched was Heros and thought they tried to introduce too many characers in the first ep; making it seem very disjointed. I will give it another ep or two but I do not have a lot of hope for it.

Smith - I just did not like any of the characters and that does not bode well.

Vanished - when you do not care if the missing person is ever found dead or alive it is time to change the channel.

I enjoyed Studio 60 and will stick with it. I have not watched a Sitcom in such a long time (Murphy Brown before Eldin left) that I do not know if I can get into the 30 minute groove.

Too early for Heroes and Jericho for me. Tonight's episode really had me intrigued. But I gotta wonder...are they going to be a family drama or an action-thriller? It looks kinda torn on that. But I need to give it a few more episodes. I'm intrigued with Jericho. And Heroes is way too early. There's plenty of interesting ideas there. And it's visually lush. I hope the networks give them some time to develop and don't pull the plug on either too quickly. I can't imagine another sh*tty reality show taking their places or another generic proceedural.

I agree. Heroes' pacing is problematic. I was also intrigued by the premise but not so much impressed with the show. It was ... boring, which is pretty unforgivable given it's the PILOT, and that Japanese dude, Japanese and thus interesting to Americans he maybe, isn't really ... that amusing. I simply don't understand why so many critics are fawning over it when the pilot was so weak, and actually comparing Heroes as a possible hit like Lost. In what world? However, I'd give it a couple of episodes before dismissing it. Hopefully it was just a bad pilot.

Hmm..I thought Heroes was awesome, and I cannot wait to see the next episode! I think that it will grow into something much bigger than people expect. I never really commit myself to ANY television show, but something about this one has intrigued me. We'll see how it goes I suppose. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I was looking forward to Heroes, then I watched it. It sucked. Great premise. Piss-poor execution. And what was with all the Star Trek references by the two character Hiro? I realize his character is a Trekkie, but after one or two Trek references, it got old quick!

#Comment 17 Tracy - I had the exact same thought about Justice when I watched the 3rd episode. It's really changing how I see the show, for the negative.

Why can't the firm win and represent a guilty person?? Are they worried how it will look? Now that would be interesting.
