Colbert's 1-888-OOPS-JEW actually works

Stephen Colbert's Repentance HotlineYou've got to love the ballsiness of Stephen Colbert and the staff of The Colbert Report. They are constantly finding different ways to connect with their audience. Remember the Wikipedia incident?

Anyway, they're at it again with the Repentance Hotline, more funnily known by its phone number, 1-888-OOPS-JEW (1-888-667-7539). You may think this line is just a gag, but according to this Newsvine article, it's not. When you call the number, you are supposed to receive the following message: "Shalom, and welcome to Stephen Colbert's atonement hotline. At the tone, please be a mench, and unburden your soul by stating how you've wronged me - Stephen Colbert. Your call will not be returned but selected apologies will be played on the air. You should be so lucky."

Problem is, when I tried calling it from both my cell phone and land line this morning, all I got was a busy signal. Maybe the line got overwhelmed when this Newsvine article came out. I was able to get to it about a half-hour ago, though, but didn't leave a message. If you left a message, let me know what it was in the comments.

I called and apologized for being a gentile who was using his repentance hotline.

Haha, Cee Rubin, you clearly have a good eye. Actually, part of my apology was about my being a Chinese agnostic. I want to hear the man call me an atheist without balls.

I called and left a message, but, umm ... none of your names sound Jewish? Wu? Ferguson? Only Jews are supposed to call! The rest of y'all have confesionals, no? :-)

DB Ferguson (from www.nofactzone.net)

I called in and left a message yesterday, so we'll see if it gets aired. If you hear something from "DB," that's me. :)

Also, last night on the show, Colbert said that the number crashed the phone system last night. So we'll see how it goes.

I'll continue to post updates on this subject on my web site, NoFactZone.net.

I love Stephen Colbert. Do you suppose he's becoming public menace #1?? Don't forget the "Stephen Colbert Bridge".

I called in like an hour ago and left a message. I was so sure it won't work that I didn't prepare what I would say. It worked and I was surprised....I left a somewhat incoherent message which probably won't make it onto the show.

I called last night and left a message.

And yes, I wrote down what I was going to say. And yes, I practiced for it at least fifteen times. And yes, I was still really nervous. And yes, I called in, like, three additional times just to hear Stephen's voice come from my phone.

Pathetic, I know.
