Why I've separated from Six Degrees

Six Degrees
I tried, I really tried.

I wanted to review Six Degrees, the new ABC Thursday night drama, but I couldn't even get through the second episode. The show is just too damn boring. I don't agree with the entire set-up of the show, as I mentioned in last week's review, and I still think there is exactly one story I'm even remotely interested in, and that's the plot involving Campbell Scott's messed up photographer character.

I'm not sure how much input executive producer J.J. Abrams has in the writing of the show, but there's nothing here that even remotely comes close to Alias, Felicity, or Lost.

I find myself drifting back to ER, even though I swore I wouldn't watch that show either after so many years of watching it. Those of you who are watching Six Degrees, is there something I'm missing?

I tried, and I tried...but I totally agree with the majority of posts here. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ BORING!
The only reason I find even the one story line with Campbell Scott (photographer) interesting is b/c he's sleeping with that cute Roswell chick...he's like 50 and she's in her 20's...nice! Ok, so I'm a dirty ol' man...sue me. But seriously, do they all live on the same block? Pissed...wanted it to be good. It'll be cancelled by mid-season.

Not being on the edge of my seat isn't a problem. Falling asleep in my seat, on the other hand...

I caught part of the second episode. I don't think I'll go out of my way to watch any more than that.

The concept that we're all separated by only a few degrees is fine, but it's not at all novel, and the show doesn't seem to do anything interesting with it. Certainly nothing that hasn't been done many, many times before. Okay, so these characters have stories that sometimes interconnect, but those stories are themselves pretty boiler-plate, sketchy and cliche. I didn't care about any of the characters, and so I wasn't interested in how they were all connected. I'm perfectly willing to accept the six-degrees element of the show, but the problem is that it does not hold it all together, and the characters are neither believable nor interesting.

What I found the show to be, basically, was a poorly paced soap opera with tedious moments of spotting other characters in the background.

I personally think this show is great and I know others who feel the same. Television has become to overwhelmed with sci-fi elements and overly produced reality shows. The coincedences in Six Degrees may be a bit much for some people to swallow, but if you just accept that element as the thread that holds the show together, whether you like it or not, then the rest of the plot lines are interesting and believable. I love the pacing of the show...just because we're not at the edge of our seats the whole time doesn't make it a bad series. There are other shows you can watch for that purpose. But this is a character drama, and as such, does a wonderful job of entertaining and I for one, am hooked.

I watch Shark at 10 pm. However, ratings for Six Degrees are up compared to last season's 10 pm show.

I gave it 15 minutes last night and was so bored I decided to clip my toenails for excitement. It's a snore-fest!

I'll keep watching 6 Degrees, but only because my wife and one of my daughters thinks it's filled with riveting interpersonal relationships. This is one show I watch that I'll actually be hoping gets the axe, or at the very least that my family gets bored with as I did about 20 minutes into the pilot.

Aaron, that last response was from Bob, but I agree with him.

Maybe we can hire someone to review each and every episode of "According to Jim". Wonder how long that'll last before said reviewer has a nervous breakdown.

Joel:
Ok. I guess I just think there's humor in everything. Sorry I mentioned it.

I'm dropping the show from my Tivo. I think they messed up the entire concept of the whole "six degree" thing... so what, one character's coffee got delivered to another character mistakenly and they happen to be in the same coffee shop? or a character picked up a penny left by another character? I'm sick of the show for making these tiny little so-called "connection" to get these people together....
