The key to this whole lawsuit is this. In-Sink-Erator is owned by Emerson. NBC is owned by their biggest competitor, General Electric. Nuff said!

Garbage disposals don't have spinning, chopping blades. They have very dull things spinning to help push the food to the edge, where it's ground up, not chopped. I'm sure it's not a good idea to stick your hand in there, but describing it as "spinning chopping blades" just isn't accurate.

I also thought she put her hand in without thinking after accidentally dropping her ring. Why would she purposely do that in front of her mother, when she is so intent on hiding her power from people?

She deliberately took off her ring and put it into the In-Sink-Erator, and stuck her hand in and got it severely mangled.

She's a fairly masochistic character, that's for sure. The only wierd thing is that she still gets hurt, it just heals. For her to go ripping herself to shreds is a bit extreme, unless she had a history of self-mutilation prior to 'Genesis'. Maybe it's a possibility. It would certainly answer most of my questions.

I thought it was also clear that she accidentally stuck her hand in. She had turned on the disposal while washing dishes, dropped something (ring?) while talking to her mother, then stuck her hand in. I think her look was of shock more than Let me try and test my power, since the rest of her tests were more at trying to kill herself, not just mangle up her hand.

I didn't notice but was the product's name even mentioned if it wasn't and that company actually wins this will spread and soon either their will be many lawsuits filed for lack of licencing to put company products into movies or TV shows.
