Wednesday ratings shocker: Lost wins!

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 5th 2006 4:34PM
JerichoABC won the ratings battle last night, with around 19 million viewers tuning into the Lost season premiere. The Nine lost a lot of Lost's lead-in, but still didn't do too shabby. CSI: NY won at 10, while Kidnapped...oh, never mind.

In the 8pm time slots: Dancing with the Stars was first at 8, followed by Jericho. Bones was third.

So I guess now the question is, will The Nine continue to lose viewers week after week, like Kidnapped and Studio 60? Will ABC stick with it for the long haul, or cut their losses and cancel it (or do what NBC is doing with Kidnapped, canceling it but wrapping things up in 13 episodes, if they can even do that?)

I think tvsquad should stop talking and commenting on the show rating! Isn't it bad enough that we constantly lost shows to those numbers???
I mean the networks should start pushing good shows by rating them without any viewer numbers.

To Joelle:

I don't think any of the explosions are nuclear. The producers/actors on the show choose their words very carefully when talking about the "big explosions" and never outright say they are nuclear. I think that if I was in the situation, I would ASSUME the worst and ASSUME there is radiation, to stay safe. I don't think there ever was any radiation at all.

This is the first time I have watched LOST on ABC. I was drawn in by all of the hype and purchsed season 1 on DVD and was hooked from there! I had to wait to get the 2nd season on DVD because it was too late to jump in on the season. I also LOVED IT! I really enjoyed the opener and it left me with a lot of questions -- the good kind where you want to tune in so you can figure out what is going on.

I am also a huge fan of jericho! I love the idea of show! The only negative thing I have to say is that some of the nuclear activity is not realistic. Fall out would contaminate everything and everyone it touched. The pools of water would be filled with radiation and everything would die. but other then that I really love the show!

I am a fan of studio 60 and cant wait for Battlestar to show its opener tonight!

I think ABC made a big mistake putting The Nine and Six Degrees where they are. Six Degrees is flunking on thursdays and Invasion showed us the Lost crowd can't bring themselves to care about what show comes after Lost, no matter how good it is.

So, rather than canceling The Nine, the right thing right now for ABC would be to can Six Degrees and give The Nine the benefit of Grey's as a lead-in. At least I hope they realise that, and FAST. Canceling The Nine would be unthinkable with the great reviews it's been getting, while Six Degrees is clearly the weakest link, and one that's wasting the best time slot this season has to offer.

Just an aside on Lost- I see the 'unpredictability' of the characters as complete incredibility. I was watching for Matthew Fox, but the whole thing's getting ridiculous, I HATE how out of the way every conversation goes to not reveal anything. Totally unnatural.

Jericho, on the other hand, is pretty great without blowing me away, and I totally appreciate it. People for the most part act normally, and it has its really cool moments, like finding the 757, and the TV broadcast. I really like that it's not trying to be grondbreaking to just be groundbreaking.

Okay so first of all I have to say LOST is the greatest show that I have ever been a fan of. Yes, it leaves questions, but that makes us want to keep watching...it's amazing...and the characters are all so unique and unpredictable. Jericho is my favorite new show. It has less mysteries than LOST..because we already know (or almost know) that the US has been bombed by another country (or countries)....The plot is just so creepy I can't help but want to watch it!

Jericho is a great show and the shocking thing is that it is holding its own out there -- and it has virtually NO publicity, other than the commercials on CBS. Most of the Entertainment shows ignore it, deciding to devote ENDLESS interviews with the no-name stars and pushing Studio 60 down everyone's throat. Note: Studio 60 is BORING! Yes, the writing is superb, but NO ONE talks like that. It takes Sorkin hours to come up with a perfectly crafted sentence for Matthew Perry or Amanda Peet to recite -- people don't speak that well in real life. (okay, maybe I need a new circle of friends).

If Jericho got 1/10th the attention the other shows have received, it would have knocked DWTS to where it belongs -- the gong show.

I like watching Jericho then chilling for an hour (cant stand Lost) then watching Kidnapped while TiVo The Nine like I did last night...guess Ill have only 13 weeks to do that...at least they gave Kidnapped a finish and arent just cutting it like Invasion got last year. Too bad I think Kidnapped could have been a good series if they gave it a chance, but in today's TV if you dont have ratings after 2 weeks youre gone.
