NBC picks up Heroes for entire season

by Anna Johns, posted Oct 6th 2006 10:11AM
heroesWhile NBC is apparently giving up on Kidnapped, it has given a full season commitment to Heroes. The sci fi drama has averaged about 13.5 million viewers in its first two episodes, while poor Kidnapped only had about 7 million per episode. Critics are calling Heroes the "break out" hit of the fall, but I think that title is reserved for Ugly Betty. Heroes will now get a full, 22-episode season.

I frakkin' thought this show was lame when it premiered. And I thought it was going to be just as bad as last seasons SURFACE(sux). Hell, it even has the same-voiced "lets catch you up" narrator at the beginning that SURFACE did.
But...
The show keeps improving w/ each new episode. I do think some of the visual aesthetic is very mundane, "cut and paste", if you will. Series like BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, LOST or 24 have really raised the bar for the "look" of tv series. HEROES needs a boost in this area. Especially when you deal w/ superheroes. Sure, Hiros' FX scenes were great, and the cheerleader FX stuff nice. But it looks a lot like the crappy SURFACE visually.
I have definitely been TiVoing this show now, because I'm hooked on the developing story. But there is definitely room for improvement.

Perhaps networks need to take into consideration the on-line viewers in formulating ratings.

I like this show, so far, mostly because of Hiro. I feel that Kidnapped deserved to be dropped--I found it boring.

The show still sucks and the TVS bloggers are right.. But that doesn't mean people still won't watch it. Look at all the crap on tv people watch.. And it can't be a break-out hit; because NBC was calling it a hit before it even aired.

Nick, you're right of course.

I just couldn't help poking a little fun at the "official" TVS bloggers on this one since they're typically so derogatory towards Heroes while overly enthralled, IMO, with Studio 60.

I love this site, the news and the comments. Sometimes I just don't understand the favoritism so I couldn't resist a little tweaking just this once. :)

C'mon guys, how would you like it if someone publically berated you when you sucked at your job? We all make mistakes and do work we're not always proud of, but having it hammered home is unpleasant. Let's just revel in the fact that Heroes is staying around for a full season and leave it at that.

and brian, while picking on the TVS bloggers about their lack of love for Heroes, you left out the dig in even this short announcement:
"Critics are calling Heroes the "break out" hit of the fall, but I think that title is reserved for Ugly Betty."
