CSI: Miami - If Looks Could Kill

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Oct 10th 2006 11:37AM
CSI: Miami(S05E04) People love to badmouth this show! "It's cheesy!" "It's so campy!" "A corpse could act better than David Caruso!" All of that may be true, but if people are badmouthing CSI: Miami, that means something else too. We're all watching it! That's got to count for something. Well I still think it's good, and despite the slow start to this episode, I think it turned into one of the best Miami eps yet.

When I say slow, I mean slow. Male models killing each other over job offers? Yawn... I think this might have been a CSI: Miami story once already. But that was hardly what the episode ended up focusing on and the way the writers put the crimes together? The only way I can explain it is this. You know how sometimes you watch a show and it's kind of boring/crappy/lousy and you might start to nod off, maybe close your eyes a little? That's how this episode started for me... but then it actually woke me up. It got that good. I was wide awake for the last 25 minutes. It was great.

I loved the idea of modeling agency owners addicted to insurance payouts. It's so creepy. And the way it ended, both owners actually killing each other? Honestly, did anyone see the lip-gloss thing coming? The only thing I didn't get was how Calleigh so quickly deduced that it was cyanide. Regardless, really good ending.

The Natalia thing has gotten a bit weird for me. I realize she's a newer character and we know nothing about her for the most part, but don't give me a whole episode where the only sub-plot is her freaky ex-husband (Rob Estes) and how he wants to get a job in the morgue. We can already see where this is going and it's just a question of how long before he turns up dead and it somehow gets pinned on Natalia.

Random thought: I'm glad Valera is back. I like when we see the same lab techs over and over. Works better that way.

So there. Cheesy? Campy? Caruso has the acting skills of a duck-billed platypus? Whatever, I liked it. Monday nights are so much easier to deal with when you don't have to think too much.

LOL-I had to read, this is too funny. Hey we can all make fun of Big Reg all we want, we're still glued to it though! Atleast it makes Mondays end with a nice laugh before bed! I'm glad they brought Valera back also! BTW- we should all write Jerry and tell him to kill off Dave & let Frank take the lead! Got to love a Texan in charge! Thanks for letting me rant.

P.S. We'd miss him though.

(Oh, and the chick that played his wife/Delko's sis did not get along with David and she was cut.) It was on a VH1 show and they were making fun of Big Red. She was one of the "opinionators". Poor David, but hell would you wanna kiss that? Nope, give me Mr. Togo-now he's hot!)

DAVID CARUSO IS A POSING ASS WHO CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THE CAMERA. HE BELIEVES HIMSELF TO BE THE TERMINATOR REINCARNATED. CSI MIAMI HAS MOLDED ITSELF TO HIS HAM PACKED PERSONA MAKING THE SHOW A BORE.

When Ryan got shot in the eye, that was good acting. I want to know who sang the themesong.

I was looking for the ending song too (Hide and Seek, Imogen Heap) since I heard it on the premiere of Smith - funny to find both posts here.

I cant believed they played "Hide and Seek" again its already been used in The OC and Smith. Basically this episode was all about Natalia hopefully her relationship to her ex won't end like what happened in CSI: NY. Weird thing when I watched this episode when Natalia and Alex talking then turned to comercial then they pick up contiuing talking instead having short view of daylight Miami then cut to scene (I don't know I thought it was weird). Im happy they brought back Maxine Valera, DNA analayist, shes so cute heheh

This episode really is stupid. They must be getting desperate. Bad acting all around.

That was a very boring episode, and yes, I did see the end (two women killing each other) coming.

"Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap.

It was also used as a closing soundtrack in Smith's premiere and The O.C.'s finale.

We all know how police-procedural shows like to use stories that are "ripped from the headlines." Well, this looks like the first one that's taking a plot from something that actually happened behind the scenes of another program.

The Rob Estes storyline, in which he plays a character's abusive ex-husband who harasses her on the job and even files police reports against her, seems like a cleaned-up version of what allegedly happened to an actress on the competing show "NCIS." An article about it can be found here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216205,00.html

I guess there are so many of these shows on the air that the writers have finished ripping off all the true stories that are out there, and they have to start cannibalizing each other now.
