Battlestar Galactica: Exodus, Part One

(S03E03) As many people made note of last week, the previews for this week's episode basically gave away the fact that Roslin lived through whatever happened during the end of the first episode, as the Cylon toasters approached the group of humans in firing squad form. But at the same time several of you were willing to believe that anything could have happened to cause her to live through such a thing.

In true Battlestar Galactica form, we start with a flashback to one hour earlier. Just from that alone you know things didn't go down as simply as they appeared at last episode's end.

Here's the thing with Sharon and what I said about her possibly causing that ambush. In the last episode we didn't see her with the rest of the landing party, so really if you didn't know for sure, she could have possibly been a Cylon spy put into place when following the map that was stolen. Well anyway, I thought it was possible at the time.

It definitely seems to be a good idea to capture the Cylons and disable them rather than kill them outright. Then they don't have a chance to make it to "download city" (love it). But really, how many Cylon "souls" are there? We know how many models, but I don't recall if they ever mentioned how many of each model there are.

Sorry, but I've got to add this in -- I don't think I'll ever get sick of seeing the near naked body of Number Six (Tricia Helfer), from any angle. Imagine this show on a pay cable station like HBO? Humina.

Some commenters thought Starbuck's sudden change of heart toward her "daughter", Kacey, was just a trick to gain the trust of her Cylon "husband." Then why was she still showing apparent caring for the child with no one else around to witness it? Seems to me she had true feelings for Kacey.

It's especially interesting that Cylons can have dreams. With them essentially being machines, what could that mean, that they can dream? I feel like I should say something about Blade Runner now ... Anyway, I found it odd that they could dream.

Maybe some of you readers with some military background can let me in on that whole line of salt that everyone gathered around on Galactica and then scattered around with their feet. Is that reminiscent of something that really occurs before battles? I know the line symbolized separation due to their enemies, with them scattering the line to show their intent to destroy that barrier. But it seemed as though based on something from our history. Or maybe it was just something cool the writers made up.

It sounds like the more a Cylon gets downloaded back to a new body, the more painful it becomes. I'm sure this is something that will come into play in some later episode, as the Cylons may actually become more afraid of being killed not from the fear of not being near a download area, but from the pain of the download process.

Finally the rescue mission is just about upon us, and I can tell you I think it's everything you'd hope it will be and more.

As Racetrack so perfectly put it: "It's on."

Just popping in. There is a lot of back and forth about Hera's age compared to Kacey's age and what not. We now know that it ISN'T Thrace's baby for sure, but regardless, time wise, she was supposed to think it possible. But my question, shouldn't Hera be almost two years old at this point? If I have time jump forwards right in the show. Anyone?

I was away from home and couldn't watch the beginning of the BSG series. Set the VCR but of course the electricity went off and ruined that plan. Anyone know where I can watch the first 3 shows?

I think Anders will bite the dust, although I think he is a much better actor this year than what I remember. I also think Ellen will bite it. She deserves to take a dirtnap. I don't care how much she loves Saul. She sold out a lot of her fellow humans. Even after Chief made clear to Saul and her last week what was happening, she still didn't come clean to Saul. Gaeta..who knows? Maybe, maybe not. Gaeta has never been a fave. But I thought he was excellent in the premiere episode. And Dee...I like her. But she seems a bit underused so far. Hmmm....

Well it could be Anders because I think the writers want Kara to have a new romantic interest. There is another thing that has puzzled me a bit. I know that Saul stated that his game plan is to disrupt the cylons, thus averting attention from the rescue attempt. I agree to that but for one difference. Why sacrifice Duck, for the death of a group of cylons that can be downloaded back to life. It seems to me, that if I am going to give my life for something, I would want to permanantly kick some butt. For example: Wow, Duck died killing those cylons....but wait!...there they are again in the break room smoking and having coffee. See what I mean.

Eh... I've never liked Gaeta. Though, being such a help to the resistance, and then being bashed for not helping is pretty stand up.

Though, I don't think Gaeta is a regular enough character, either.

Come to think of it, the Chief is about the only recurring character I wouldn't mind seeing die. Dualla, Gaeta, Ellen, Jammer... Anders and Helo even (especially if he keeps his hair like that. He looks like an idiot).

Or Maya... Don't kill her. Or, Cally, obviously. But, especially Maya. Mmmmmmm.... Maya. :)

I must confess, I am a little nervous about the upcoming episode concerning my all-time favorite and super talented character Boomer/Sharon. God forbid it has been three episodes now and she has not been beaten, spit on, insulted. and near raped. And all these things her reward for ummm. saving the fleet multiple times (They did throw bottles at her last ep but that was only because they thought she was just another model). Oh my God she is helping them again! This can only mean a horrible harvest for my well meaning and gifted Sharon. To make matters worse even her own people are poised to do her no good. Nervous....you bet! I consider a great episode is when my heroine gets through unscathed. I await Friday with an anxious mind.

That would be too bad. I like Gaeta's character. He plays his part well.

Dorv,

As much as I wish it would be that bitch Ellen who dies, I agree tgat they are thinking of a more regularly seen character who is going to die. Unfortunately I see that being Gaeta. I dont think anyone will believe him when he tells them he was the inside source.

docrmc: I had forgotten about Starbuck's history w/ child abuse until you mentioned it. It does frame her reaction to Kacey's injuries in a much different light.

Tim: I think that they meant regular character in the technical sense. I think Ellen is considered a recurring star. Wikipedia (dubious source, to be sure) considers the following 'series regulars:' Adama, Roslin, Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer, Six, and Baltar. I have to rewatch tonight and see who's actually listed before the "Guest Star" tile comes up, as they don't list them in the main credits anymore (I don't think).

Akbar: I'm not sure I remember debating TOO hotly on BSG last year. I do remember bashing away at each other on some of the Firefly retro's this summer, though ;)
