David Tennant may not return for Dr. Who

by Brett Love, posted Oct 15th 2006 3:10PM
David Tennant - Doctor WhoWhat is it about Doctor Who that makes people want to leave? First we had Christopher Eccleston (The Doctor) calling it quits after one series. Then Billie Piper (Rose) left after two. Now The Sun is reporting that David Tennant (The Doctor) may not be coming back after he finishes series three, his second with the show. According to reports, he has been offered £1million to come back for series four. Digging out the calculator, converting pounds to dollars, dividing by episodes, that's more than what those crazy kids over at Lost are getting.

Of course, he could also be floating his exit in the press as a bargaining tool. Maybe he wants more money, a personal chef, or just all the Toblerone he can possibly eat. Whatever the case, I'd like to see him stick around. I'm really enjoying his work as The Doctor in series two, currently airing in the U.S. on SciFi. But given the recent history of the show, anything can happen.

I've heard that the character is likely regenerating (I assume we all know what that means) in Series 4 (show series not Tenant's tenure).
I also heard two versions of Freema leaving. One version says its only to be a guest on Torchwood for a short time (while the Bride returns to Doctor Who) and another is that she is leaving altogether.

Actually, in the 60s an actor would stick around for much longer than three seasons as the Doctor. Of course, their shows were half hour shows as opposed to an hour. BUT, seasons were longer in those days too. Of course Bonds also lasted longer "back in the day".

i dont think its right for david to leave after all he has got to be the best doctor in this century and he is the last time lord so there's no time for all the regenerating business again!

P.S. He is too much of a ladies man to leave

If The Sun says David Tennant is leaving half way through series 4, then David Tennant is leaving half way through series 4! About fucking time to! Tennant is an annoying arse hole! He always has to make stupid faces, he is an arrogant big headed show off and the moment his gay head appeared on the programme, he doomed Doctor Who and the future of the BBC for eternity! CASE CLOSED.

I hope this is only a rumour. David is one of the best Doctors since Tom Baker, Peter Davidson and Chris Ecclestone. It would be nice if he could stick around for a couple more years at least... What will happen when we reach the twelve and final one?

I sincerely hope David carries on in this role, as he was only surpassed by Tom Baker; and it would mean having to find a suitable replacement?

This would upset members of my Dalek World forum too!

I did find this article, from this week, linked off of the Outpost Gallifrey website: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/03012007/364/statham-new-doctor.html

Even so, I sure you are correct JYH.

Tennant leaving during the 4th season is a load of Bollocks. First of all please realize that England's "The Sun" newspaper is about as reliable and on par with US weekly, The Star, and the Weekly World News of American Tabloid Fame.

Second of all, who does it say will replace David? Jason Statham. That would be the worst casting against character in the history of mankind. And no one, especially Russel T. Davies is going to turn the show into something where someone like Statham's normal character type would be at home. That's not what Doctor Who is about, and will NEVER be about.

And lastly, until you hear it on the Beeb directly from Tennant or Davies, I wouldn't put any stock in what any paper speculates about. Just not worth my time, not worth your time, and certainly not worth worrying about much less publishing. It is sensationalism at it's worst.

As you can see I am a hardcore fan of Doctor Who, but you also have to realize: So is Tennant. He is known for 2 things: In grade school he wrote an essay about how he wanted to grow up and play Doctor Who on TV, and he was the Highest rated doctor in Doctor Who Magazine 9(something that is VERY prestigious, and Tennant knows this). He's not leaving anytime soon. Gauranteed.

It looks like David Tennant will be leaving during the fourth season. So, unfortunately, we only have another season and a half to enjoy him as the Doctor. He is fantastic in the role:
