Two Hellboy movies coming to Toonami

by Adam Finley, posted Oct 16th 2006 11:04AM
hellboyListen up, fans of comic books and comic book movies: two animated movies that will serve as continuations of both the Hellboy comic and the feature film are slated to appear on Cartoon Network's Toonami block in 2006 and 2007. The first, titled Hellboy: Sword of Storms, will air on Toonami October 28 at 9:30 pm. The second movie, Hellboy: Blood and Iron, is set for sometime in 2007. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm really excited about this, or rather, I would be if I actually read those comic books or ever saw the live-action movie, which I haven't. But hey, I relay this information to you out of pure, unconditional love. Damn straight. The new animated film will also include several people involved with the live-action feature film: Ron Pearlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones will voice their characters from the original movie. Screenwriter Mike Mignola, who created Hellboy and co-wrote the first movie has also co-written the animated versions, and director Guillermo Del Toro will serve as creative producer along with Mignola.

How about a mention that Mike is the man who CREATED Hellboy?

Fixed. Thanks.

During a panel for the animated series at ComiCon this year, they showed the first 7mins of Sword of Storms. All I can say is set your Tivo's, don't miss it! Hopefully, the action content will not get cut, it's definately not a "kids" movie. During the panel they said it wasn't written with kids in mind and if anything should be cut, all will return on the DVD

Also, DHP didn't feel the Abe part was large enough for work, so he bowed out.

David,

A sequel is in the works. However, it wont be a true sequel. More so just another adventure of Hellboy and will not have anything to do with the first film (which I thought was great)

For folks who haven't seen the live action movie, it's gotta ton of plot holes, and it's super corn ball. But every time it's on cable I watch my favorite parts.

I'll be watching in October.

Superbagman,

DHP did do the voice in the first movie but he asked for his name to come off because the physical role put on by Doug Jones was so awesome DHP felt the role should have fully been his.

Doug Jones is doing both the voice and the acting in the next live action film.

David Hyde Pierce did the voice of Abe Sapien in the movie, not Doug Jones. It's my understanding that Pierce voiced Abe but was uncredited and Jones actually played the role in the makeup. So it's interesting that Jones is doing the voice for the cartoon.
