Nathan Fillion signs deal with Fox

by Anna Johns, posted Oct 17th 2006 11:33AM
nathan fillionEvidently, Nathan Fillion has restored his faith in Fox. Or he could really use a job. Either way, Fillion has signed a talent holding deal with Fox (similar to the one Amy Brenneman signed with ABC). According to ComingSoon.net, the deal calls for Fox to develop a comedy or drama for Fillion and, if it doesn't go to pilot, to cast him in an existing project.

Nathan played Capt. Mal Reynolds in the short-lived show, Firefly. The show failed (in many fans' opinions) because of the Fox network. It played the episodes out of order and didn't give a whole lot of love to the Joss Whedon space cowboy series. It'll be nice to see Nathan back on television, won't it?!?

They didn't just run the episodes out of order. They pre-empted the pilot! What lunatic decided to schedule a pilot after a World Series game that was almost guranteed to run overtime?

I suspect people involved in the show have a pretty good idea who at Fox had it in for them and whether that person is still in power.

Guess it was surprisingly funny, because I hadn't discovered Nathan or Firefly yet. Was only in the Serenity panel by accident, but they were so good that I ended up renting the Series from Netflix and buying the movie after that. Also came away with a new appreciation for Adam Baldwin. He should be on more shows too.

I had read that Nathan will be appearing on Lost this season, in some flashbacks.

well if we were really going to be cheesy with it "Developing Serenity".

But seriously, some actors are too good to lose. And, to Fox's credit, theyve done enough right lately that ive ended my outandout boycott of the station- for just 2 shows, but, its a start.

Margaret, why "surprisingly funny"? If you've heard the commentary he and Alan Tudyk did on the DVD set, or watched any of the features in which he's just himself, it's clear that he's hilarious.

I'm thrilled he's coming back to TV (I'm actually a fan of his going back to the *dreadful* "Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place"), but I'm sorry it's FOX. But still--a guy's gotta work, eh?

Fantastic! He was surprisingly funny at a Comic-Con panel when Serenity came out. He should be great at whatever they put him in, as long as the writers aren't total dunderheads.

It will be nice to see him back. For all three episodes his show lasts. Maybe they can put him back together with Tim Minear and we'll get to nine episodes.
