The next Amazing Race may be going the All-Star route

by Richard Keller, posted Oct 18th 2006 5:40PM

The Amazing RaceSurvivor did it first. Then, Big Brother followed. Now, it looks like The Amazing Race will go into All-Star mode for its eleventh cycle, which begins filming next month.

According to the TVgasm website, the only teams that are confirmed as returning are Collin and Christy, and Mirna and Charla (otherwise known as Schmirna), who are both from the fifth cycle of the series. When doing some research for this post (yes, I actually do try to get my facts straight) it seems that Mirna and her cousin were not really loved by the viewing public. Regardless of that, all returning teams will face a slew of brand new tasks and challenges courtesy of recently hired challenge producer Alan Bishop, who was responsible for recent Survivor challenges.

What is your opinion on another reality show going the All-Star route? On the one hand I think viewers are interested in seeing some of their favorite teams again on a new trek. On the other hand, you're also seeing the same annoyances that you grew to hate when they first appeared. And, unlike Survivor and Big Brother, there is no new group dynamic on TAR; it's the same teams in different settings. Unless, the producers decide to mix the teams up. Now, that would be interesting.

I wouldn't mind seeing Charla have another go at it, as long as she didn't bring Mirna with her. Mirna did nothing but whine, while Charla charged into every task. In fact, Peter and Sarah remind me of them. Sarah's been doing all the difficult challenges, while Peter criticizes.

And please no more Rob and Amber. I was sick of them by the end of Survivor...

I guess I'm in the minority because I actually love the All-Star shows. Every time a new season starts of Survivor or Race or whatever, it always takes a while for the characters to catch on with me. In fact, I ususally hate them all! :-) But with All-Stars I already know who I like and who I don't like, and the drama for me kicks in right away.

Please no All Stars!!! Please no Romber!!!! But if you must, it's gotta have Mirna and Schmerna!!
By the way, I loved the Family Edition, and the Florida Family especially!!

I hate all-star shows, but I did love Mirna. She is hot. And at least no Rob and Amber.

This season's pretty good except we need more really psychotic abusive guys to hate. Just get back to basics.

I vote no! Then again, I also vote for this show taking a year or two off. I like it, but how many times can you really watch it? I'm only half watching this year's show. It's not that it's not good, it's just that it's tired.

An all-star show, though, is likely inevitable. With that in mind, I'd want to see them adhere to certain rules. Either no previous winners, or only groups that were runners-up. 11 really strong teams COULD be interesting.

If they're going to pull a stunt like that, run it during the summer, not as the 'regular season' series. Don't they remember how badly the family disaster hurt their ratings (then again, maybe it was the idiots from Florida that did that).

Nooooooo! Survivor and Big Brother's All-Star seasons were both awful and had awful final two's. I don't wanna see TAR go that same route.
