Are all Grey's Anatomy fans insane?

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 19th 2006 11:47AM

Rachael RaySo I'm watching Rachael Ray this morning (I woke up a little late and groggy so I wanted something to snap me into wide awake mode), and she has Chandra Wilson on, from the ABC hit Grey's Anatomy. She's sitting with Rachael at that table, drinking, being all casual and taking questions from the people in the audience. And the questions were...interesting, to say the least.

The first woman gets up and asks "What's Dr. McDreamy like in real life?" Um, first of all, he actually has a real name (and he's not a doctor). Patrick Dempsey. Maybe you've heard of him? Fans like this scare me. It's not that I don't think they can separate the TV world from the real world. I'm sure they can. It's just that fans like this don't even bother to go with the real world option first, they're so wrapped up in "how great that show is!"

Hey, I love The Office, but if Rainn Wilson was on a TV show and I was in the audience, I wouldn't ask him "What's Michael Scott in real life?" The guy's name is Steve Carell.

The second audience member asked, "This question is for Dr. Bailey..."

Wow. You're talking to an actress named Chandra Wilson, and you call her by her character name, right to her face. Nice move. But the best part was this woman's question: "If you were to be operated on by someone in the cast, who would you want it to be?"

Again, wow. Are these people actually allowed to walk around in the outside world without supervision? I'm just happy she didn't get a question about a medical problem:

Audience member: "This question is for Dr. Bailey. I'm currently taking Crestor once a day, and it doesn't seem to be working, and I was wondering if I should up my dosage or if I should switch to another medication?"

Chandra Wilson: "Um...

Rachael Ray: "Thanks for all the neat-o questions! Coming up next, we're gonna make some yum-o sandwiches!"

I enjoy Grey's Anatomy and like the message board. What is wrong with people having a little fun and fantasy in their life. I prefer that to people who constantly complain and criticize.

Fans of G.A...keep obsessing...and you people who can't stand it..don't watch!! It's simple..and who the heck cares what people ask the actors...we don't need all the personal, life changing questions...that is what Barbra Walters is for!

I am a HUGE fan of Grey`s Anatomy and I take it upon myself to defend us fans...Yes we know the names of the actors but then again, if I`d come face to face with either Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo or Chandra Wilson, my first instinct would be to call them McDreamy, Meredith or Dr Bailey...it`s not an insult I think, it`s showing them we love their work!!! And I don`t think it`s a poor show...heck how can 22 million viewers be wrong???

No...we are not all INSANE...I for one HATE when people will say Dr.McDreamy when refering to Patric Dempsey...I LOVE the show..I'm frankly obsessed! Go on the Message Boards...use lavender shampoo, buy things for the ABC store, eat musielli etc., we are not like that..not us INSNELY OBSESSED fans...if someoen coems on the messgae baords and talks like this...we'll tell them off...on Oprah they did the Dr.Bailey, Dr/Grey thing UGH felt like punching them...anyone...no..we are crazy...but not in a Grey's-is-real-way.

They must be crazy to follow such a ridiculous and poorly written show.

You want to see kee-razy, overinvested Grey's fans? Just hop over to a thread on TWoP devoted to much gushing over the imaginary affair between Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey, all based on their appearance together in a promotional video for a clothing store. The squeeing is accompanied by attacks on PD's wife and EP's boyfriend (as one poster notes, how dare their real life interfere with the fans' fantasy life)? I particularly loved this response to the Crazy:

"Last time I checked, PD's wife and EP's significant other didn't sign up to be trashed on some random site in order for some fangirls to squee over an imagined couple. You (meaning the collective you) are maligning them with absolutely no basis in fact in order to play a really squicktastic game of Barbie dolls."

Rachel Ray's show is awful. From the moment the camera zooms in on her elevator entrance, greeting the audience with her "high fives" (like Oprah), RR's huge mouth never stops barking! If you push your mute button, you won't miss anything because she is boring, her topics and food presentations are lame, but you will she her huge mouth flapping! This woman got very, very, lucky in life to be making millions of dollars with no talent.

I love the show, but lord these people need to get a life. I mean it's a show!!!!!!! And I know a lot of other shows those actors were on before they hit it big on Grey's.

First of all, the whole "McSteamy/McDreamy/McWhatever" makes me think it's an hour-long ad for McDonalds, not a tv series. It's highly irritating and I cringe everytime I hear one of those stupid nicknames.

Second, I absolutely agree about the name thing. If you're a fan and you can't differentiate between the character and the actor/actress, then you need to shut off the tv and take a few weeks break from the show. Repeat after me...it's not real-life, it's just tv.
