Simpsons take aim at Iraq war in new Treehouse of Horror

I disagree, I just watched the episode too, and I think that the last line is really needed. Its a tough time in the world and Simpson's is an important show. It's a great episode that brought me back (especially during the first skit) to the good ol' days of the mid 90's when the show was constantly funny... and then like in the old school episodes, it ended with a lesson learned. I hope they keep it in, it will catch you off guard, but I think that that's perfect. Congrats simpsons

SPOILER ALERT

I just saw the promotional screener FOX sent out. The whole episode was generally funny, with an appearance by Maurice LaMarche (aka Brain from Pinky and the, aka every Orson Welles impersonation in cartoons). I definitely had some hard chuckles, but the Iraq thing fell so flat.
The whole segment wasn't about Iraq, but when Kodos and Kang swoop in, they make a few allusions that WERE funny. But the punchline was awful. It was like, 1) setup, 2) funny allusion, 3) clever parallel, 4) "This is what Iraq will look like next year".
There was no grace about it at all, and it sucks because it's at the end and it kind of made me forget how funny the rest of the episode actually was. I really hope they take it out or change it by air time (it was a voice over anyway), not because it's controversial (which it isn't, really), but because it's not funny.

Bart signs up for what he thinks is summer camp and winds up in the reserves in Iraq.

"Eat my shorts, insurgents"

The episode closes with Rumsfeld issuing slingshots to the troops.

I'd watch it.

The great thing about the TREEHOUSE episodes is that the writers don't have to stretch decent ideas into full length episodes. They can poke fun at the Iraq situation without the burden of building an entire episode around it. Plus, if it doesn't work, there are two other stories that might.
