Ya know, this really is an amazing take on releasing TV shows in HD. My first thought was how great this show would be in HD, especially since it is syndicated and I've never actually seen a current episode in HD (thanks, WB/CW). I've got seasons 1-4 on DVD and even that step up in quality is a terrific improvement. I've been putting off buying a HD player simply because of the current format war. Every time I get the urge, I look at my now dormant Beta VCR & Laserdisc player and stack of tapes or discs. However, I must say that this announcement surprised me - and may actually help push me forward in coming closer to investing in yet another form of media. With the availability of so many quality shows now being released, this seems like a natural progression. Why not take advantage of both the market and the available media?

All I can say is, contrast this announcement with Fox's decision to release How I Met Your Mother in the full frame format when it was originally presented widescreen. Dumb, dumb, dumb. One small step for man, one giant leap BACKWARDS for the studios.

You're really missing out, Adam. While Smallville has bits that cater to DC comic fans, the show is structured to be accessible to non-fans as well.
