Battlestar Galactica: Collaborators

battlestar galactica collaborators
(S03E05) Finally, we're back on Galactica for good ... or at least it seems that way. The episode wastes no time getting right into the thick of things, showing us why it's titled 'Collaborators'. You can tell Tigh doesn't exactly feel comfortable with the methods used to deal with those who they feel betrayed the human race on New Caprica, and Chief feels even more opposed, though still only really in the back of his mind. Everyone just wants to see someone get hurt back for what happened.

You can't help but feel for Jammer right away. I mean, we know a lot more about him than the others do. We know for a fact that he let Callie go, but the others are only able to take Jammer's word with a grain of salt and wonder if that much is even worth his life. You just want to reach into the TV and yell "Jammer really let Cally go!" But instead we have to sit and watch it all play out before us.

Oh, and just because Jammer's spacebound doesn't mean he can't still be a Cylon. I'm just sayin'.

What I'd actually like to know is how Chief and the others knew who was on the police force. Who blabbed? Why didn't they know earlier? I can only imagine that they found just one guilty person, then made that person give up the others before doing him in.

I love the dream Baltar had. I will admit there was an initial shock at that scene but then it became obvious very quickly that this was all a dream before Baltar even realizes it himself.

Someone got it 100% right in a previous comment, that Roslin would eventually get the presidency pretty much handed to her by Zarek. So did Zarek really take a turn for the better while on New Caprica?

So it seems there are definitely seven Cylon models there on the ships with Baltar, as the Number Three model tells him. So, where are the other models? I guess this seems to say it's very possible that the others are true sleeper agents, ones even the Cylon models we know don't know about.

What I said about Jammer earlier pales in comparison to what we see of Gaeta. Starbuck stands there knowing all about what, to her, is some weird dog bowl speech. All she'd need to do is just make one mention of it and everything would be known. And just as Chief is almost out of earshot, she does, and just in the nick of time. The look on Chief's face of how close they were to killing someone who's basically a hero tells it all.

And the closing scene is priceless.

(By the way, this is off the subject of this episode and maybe this is well known info., but did you know that Will of Nobody's Watching is the same person who played Billy Keikeya in season one, Paul Campbell? I knew he looked familiar!)

Cally was released a guard(Jammer?), by the side of the truck and pushed down a ravine, as she was running and upright, she heard the gunfire. Cally also sneaked out the back of a truck and ran toward the rebels and was thrown to the ground by her husband as the gunfire erupted over her. My husband says this could be shooting glitch, but I say that Cally is (the 8th known) CYLON model! Anyone? Anyone?

I agree w/ Rob. This episode was rather weak, good, but a little weak. The Gaeta storyline resolution could be seen a mile away. Although I enjoyed Katee Sackhoffs' performance, I thought the Kara/Anders scenes seemed too rushed and a bit underdeveloped. I'm sure there will be more conflict down the road between the both of them. And I never really cared for Anders character, but I really like him this season. I hope he hangs around for awhile. And I loved Saul in this episode. The whole exchange between him and Adama was great. One more thing--the Centurions FX this ep. looked bad. I guess RDM blew most of the shows FX budget for this season w/ Exodus, part 2.(J/K) But they did look bad.

I think BSG is perhaps the best show on TV ever, and loved Exodus, but I really found this episode kind of weak. It was obvious where things would end up with Gata. And the whole forgiveness tack was straight out what South Africa did. Try something original. And I thought Hogan was great last week but he seems too pissed off now. Here's hoping for a better one next week.

In a perfect world, I wish they would release complete versions of this show on DVD, with some of these added changes. It would be an excellent way to sell more copies of the show, as I know I'll be watching this whole series again and again.

I listen to the podcasts religiously on Saturday mornings, to see what was left out. If you can make time for them, it's highly worth it. In this episode, you'll also hear RDM talk about how they felt they had to go for a sci-fi feel when building the basestar sets. The podcasts are much better now that he's not spoiling things that happen three or four episodes down the line.

I just hope we continue to hear of the odd collaborator being killed or vanishing. The scars of New Caprica won't heal too easily. It was really good to see an update on the numbers too. Overall a loss, but I hope maybe there are other captured humans being experimented on in the Basestar where Baltar's kept. That should make it interesing.

Two points if anyone's still on this thread:
1. Why did Chief say Callie didn't make it? I liked Callie better when she wasn't with the Chief. She was a cool recurring character, but her and Tigh doesn't quite sit right. Something about them not kissing or anything.
2. Is it just me, or does anyone else find the whole Cylon multiple units, different personalities thing really stupid. It's confusing and just messy. I had expected different from BSG, but everyone seems to love Downloaded, so I may be in the minority.

Re: how they got the evidence about the collaborators. Ron Moore mentioned in his podcast that the evidence came from Roslin's journal. Tory took it and gave to Zarek not realizing what it would be used for.

Keith: I apologize if I came across that way, but I don't think I "came down on you" at all. If you remember, we disagreed on this point earlier, and I was just speaking my opinion again with more information.

On an off note, its amazing to me how much I let some of the background characters melt into the background. I rewatched 'Flight of the Phoenix' last night, and I expected to see Jammer, but Duck jumped out at me as someone I should have remembered more.

my 2 cents in regards to the podcasts: I think if one wants to debate shows, they would want to work with as much verified real information as possible. RDMs podcast to me is a supplement to the show. Alot of time he fills in holes that had to be cut for time or budget concerns but are still aluded to in the show later on. I dont even listen to them while watching anymore. He speaks enough about things that you can follow along without seeing where the show is.

Keith, the scene with Jammer was cut for time and budget concerns. But yes, RDM does say that Jammer was supposed to be shown surviving the explosion.

Couple of things --

I don't regularly listen to Moore's podcast. I just don't have the time I used to anymore. I'd love to, but I just can't. So thanks everyone who fill me in on what he says each week. However, don't come down on people who come to their own conclusions and who also don't have time to listen to the podcast.

Speaking of that podcast, as far as Jammer goes, does Moore actually say in the podcast that he survived it? I just wonder why they'd cut a scene of him emerging from the dead bodies when it would clear up so much. Did they cut the scene because maybe the thought later, hey, let's make him a Cylon?

I'm not saying I think Jammer is a Cylon, just that I think 99% of the viewers of BSG are still allowed their own interpretation of what went on BY WHAT WAS SHOWN, not by what Moore later said happened. Same goes for the Ellen thing and Tigh's involvement with the "circle".

So says me. :)
