FOX orders new sci-fi show

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 27th 2006 1:43PM
FOX logoIf you like science fiction, and Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who, Stargate, and other shows aren't enough, get ready for Beyond.

According to Aint It Cool News, FOX has ordered 13 episodes of the series. It's about a big meteor coming to Earth, carrying a deadly virus, and the efforts to stop it. Jeez, as if a meteor wasn't enough to worry about, the damn thing has to be carrying a virus too? The show will star Seth Gable, Rachel Perry, and Merrin Dungey from Alias.

The best part of the story is the various comments from Ain't It Cool readers. Some of the entertaining subject lines of the comments include "Why FOX Why" and "Armageddon meets Outbreak" and "For Christ's Spellcheck. Is it that hard?" Ha!

How is the plot for this proposed series not the exact same as the backstory for "Crusade" (assuming, of course, you replace 'meteor' with 'ships belonging to a former ally of the Shadows')?

Fox will cancel the show before it even airs and after they already filmed 6 episodes.

It sounds bad enough to be on for several seasons on Fox. If a show like Firefly couldn't, um, fly on Fox I'd surmise that decisions for the network are made in bizarro world.

The saddest part is I'll probably watch it.

Sounds a bit like Threshold, and it really doesn't sound that good - Depending on how it looks, I'll probably skip it. And, let's see how long this'll last.

What's the point of having the meteor carry a virus? I forsee three scenarios:

1. They destroy the meteor and save Earth. (not likely, that's a one-season show ... and the virus means nothing.)

2. They *try* to destroy meteor and are unsuccessful. The metoer crashes into earth, spreading the virus to mankind. (Though shouldn't the virus burn up in the atmosphere?)

3. They *try* to destroy the meteor, succeed, but bring the virus home to earth. (Most likely, IMHO. Season 2 starts with the astronauts' return, spreading the disease. Oooo, it spread via secual contact, that would rock!)

Jeez, what a transparent show.

So do you think FOX has canceled it yet?
