Here's that Guiding Light superhero

by Bob Sassone, posted Oct 27th 2006 4:12PM

Guiding Light Remember that crossover between Marvel Comics and the CBS soap Guiding Light that I told you about recently? The episode airs next Wednesday, November 1, and CBS.com has a sneak peek video.

Of course, I can't get the video to work at all. Can anyone else get it to work? I've tried both IE and Firefox and it doesn't load for some reason.

Anyway, the superhero is actually regular GL character Harley Cooper, who is zapped by lightning (oh, original) and gets superpowers. But will she will good or evil? Not sure, but it looks like her superhero-ness is comprised of colored contact lenses and the kind of hat that newsboys used to wear in the 1940s.

Marvel will have a special comic book featuring the superhero inserted into several other comic books in the coming weeks (a full list is at the site above).

This episode with Harley and the super hero BS was exactly that...BS. It reminded me of the stupid plotlines that General Hospital used years ago, and I never watched GH since. Please don't insult us with these stupid stories. Sweeps month or not.

smart cross branding. i'm sure fans of GL will run to buy civil war and other comics and all of the comics nerds will be tuning in to GL.

The video worked fine for me in IE6, Bob. Oh, and Harley didn't get struck by lightning, she was electrocuted by some Halloween lights and that's a huge difference. I agree that being struck by lightning to acquire superpowers is lame, but everyone knows that Halloween lights have special properties, so it's okay.

Worked for me. And, as a long time viewer of Guiding Light, it looks fun to me! In the "old days" when soaps were popular, this particular show incorporated a lot of fantasy into the show. One girl used to imagine herself in movies like Gone with the Wind. I don't see this as any different. On Wednesdays they do these special episodes now where one (or a small group) of characters is the focus, and the episodes are usually campy or overly dramatic. I've been enjoying them, in spite of what I first thought.
