Mariska Hargitay returns to SVU tonight

Mariska Hargitay returns to Law and OrderJust a reminder that Mariska Hargitay returns to Law & Order: SVU with tonight's episode. This is the post-pregnant Hargitay that will appear, not the pregnant, puffy jacket Mariska that was shown in the season premiere.

However, it's not like she walks right back into the squadroom and goes 'Hey everybody, I'm back! Let's get some coffee'. If you remember from the first episode of the season Mariska's character, Detective Olivia Benson, went undercover to infiltrate an eco-terrorist group based out of Oregon. In tonight's episode she returns to New York to assist A.D.A. Casey Novak in presenting evidence in a rape case. Of course, this could impact the work Olivia has been doing on the West Coast.

Hargitay's return does not mean the immediate departure of Connie Nielsen, who has played Detective Dani Beck over the last few episodes. Since she has been signed on for six episodes there's a pretty good chance will see her again in the future. Who knows, maybe she'll become a regular player and shake up the partnerships a bit. I think that would breathe some fresh air into the series.

i hated olivia leaving i wanted to go down to hollywood and kill connie neilson and whoever had the idea of putting her on the show i know mariska is coming back next week i couldnt believe elliot would kiss dani when he only knew her for a month and not olivia thathe new for eight years but i know that their just stalling until mariska came back from meternity leave

Olivia and Stabler are my people period... ! They bring to the show what no others could. If they cannot be together as partners, then I will no longer watch the show. Please tell me that Mariska Hargitay will be back permanently.

Olivia and Stabler work sooo well together - they are totally believable as characters, they are INTERESTING as people - plus we love 'em!! so let's have my girl back! Connie was OK but Olivia's the real thing.

Ok if they change the partners i will hate the show...Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson have to stay together...so many people were upset when they broke up for that one episode last season!

(and as much as some of you think it is broken, olivia told her FBI case agent that elliot was her best friend. so there. haha.)

As much as I love Mariska, I would love for them to keep Connie Nielsen on! As you said, it would shake up the show a bit. Anything to see more of Nielsen's hot bod!
