BBC America brings four news shows stateside

by Julia Ward, posted Nov 2nd 2006 9:25AM
Feel the ForceBBC America will add four new programs to its roster this January. The U.K. shows have been running for awhile overseas, but will be making their U.S. debuts in 2007.

The line-up includes:

Soundproof, an urban thriller that puts a twist on your run-of-the-mill whodunit by bringing deaf and hearing actors together. Get excited, Gallaudet students. We're finally going to have a partially deaf heartthrob on the scene in the form of happening Brit Joseph Mawle.

Turn Back Your Body Clock, a show about, well, the title sorta gives that one away.

Feel the Force, a female buddy comedy about two bumbling policewomen. Filmed in Edinburgh, the show stars Michelle Gomez and Rosie Cavaliero. The show is written by Smack the Pony's Georgia Pritchett and produced by Catherine Bailey. These names may be foreign to the non-Anglophiles out there, but any show that puts funny ladies in front of and behind the camera gets a nod from this gal-writer.

The Wow Factor, yet another interior design series for the Nate Berkus in you -- the Nate Berkus faking a British accent.

I, too, agree that "Feel the Force" is very un-funny. I *love* British humor, but this show just didn't do it for me. I wish they'd bring "Supernova" in its place. While it's only "okay" or "average funny" it's still a lot funnier than "...Force".

Have to agree with George regarding FEEL THE FORCE. It is a totally laugh free programme which you watch in growing disbelief . How they manage to make it so bad is a mystery in itself.

Regarding 'Feel the Force' -- don't get excited until you've seen it. Despite the talent on both sides of the camera, the programme is a mess, IMHO. Put it this way: imagine a movie with Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, and no director. It's very shtick-over-substance. And I'm speaking as someone who was prepared to like it.

Oh, man, you had me at Michelle Gomez. Her turns as Sue White on "Green Wing" always crack me up. Let's hope her cop character is even more of a loon.

Sadly, Feel the Force wasn't very good.
