The View: It's Elisabeth vs. Joy - again

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 2nd 2006 8:51AM

The ViewThere's something seriously wrong with Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

On yesterday's show, the conversation turned to John Kerry's remarks the other day about President Bush, and before you knew it, Elisabeth and Joy were going at it again. Hasselbeck not only said the words "flip-flop" (wow, she must have the talking points in needlepoint on a pillow back at home) she actually said that Kerry was "like Mel Gibson without the booze."

Yeah, well, Elisabeth Hasselbeck is like Dr. Laura, without the brains.

Before it got too much out of hand - if it didn't already - Rosie put an end to it all with a little song.

I don't usually watch The View. My TV just happened to be on ABC when I turned it on and I caught Barbara in the middle of her opinion on the war in Iraq. I listened as each woman up there cowered to popularity needs and had misguided views of how the world saw our country before 9/11 and how they see us now. I was so PROUD of Elisabeth for stating that she would rather be safe than liked. The only foreigners that liked us before 9/11 were the oppressed. The ones that hated us then and continue to hate us now are the oppressors. I also loved how Elisabeth pointed out that after 9/11, Democrat, Republican, Independent, Green, or whatever party a person represented, (INCLUDING KERRY!!) the President received overwhelming support with little or no questioning or opposition. How easy it is in hindsight to be so damning and omniscient. I understand Elisabeth's remarks were not made in support of the war or against it. I'm just really glad that in a day of left winged media coverage being stuffed down our throats as we are told that it is what we want, she stood up for what she believed and what many of our countrymen believe. Kudos to her!
She may not always be brilliant, but at least she is not swayed by popular vote or lie to make others like her.

There is something seriously wrong with this show!
I was asked to bring someone to a doctor's office today and unfortunately, this TV show was on the TV in the waiting area.

None of the women on this show know how to speak properly. Not one of them could get a sentence out without having the word "like" in it. Is America really this stupid? Where and when did it become permissible to relate a conversation someone had with someone by saying, "I was like, no way"? When I am involved in conversations and someone speaks in that manner by saying "like" a thousand times in a conversation, I excuse myself from the conversation. Do people realize how dumb they sound when they speak Valley talk? This show is just ridiculous, I cannot believe anyone with any amount of intelligence finds this show interesting.....

Is EH running for something? She seems to want all the publicity recently - first the L&O SVU meltdown now this. I am a conservative and I wish she would shut up. She is not helping. She comes across as a bit of a twit.

I would love to see Hasselbeck replaced. She is 1 annoying person. (I am really trying to control my language) I am a daily watcher of the view, but I have never enjoyed HER at all. Her stupidity and lack of knowledge amazes me. Why don't you get rid of her Barbara? Your show is supposed to be The View and she doesn't listen to anyone elses view but her own. Which by the way really doesn't make alot of sense.

I just noticed that the picture of the View hosts has been altered to take off 50 lbs off of Rosie!

Never watched the View until the Star Jones exit, etc.
I wonder everytime I watch it, how did EH get her job?
What are her qualifications? Or did they just want someone who was a nobody-a sort of regular guy? I laugh when I read that she (and/or Joy). Where would they ever work again, especially for that kind of money!? Have we ever heard from Star again?

Kris, When my brother entered the army after 911 to protect and fight for OUR nation, he joined with the intention that the Bush administration would lead with correct intelligence and winning strageties. After 1 year of tour of duty in Iraq, he is let down by OUR nation's leaders and angered that his soldiers are dying because Bush and Rumsefeld are morons!!! You cannot compare Hitler to Sadam....very similar but very different BY FAR!!!!!

Mark, I understand your diplomatic way approaching the situation between Joy and Eliabeth. However when our soldiers are dying (101 dead in 10/06 alone), it is time to stop the diplomatic BS!!!!

By the way: "Jon Carry" is how the Minnesota National Guard troops in Iraq spelled his name when they had themselves photographed in "Irak" holding a banner ridiculing his "botched joke". The photo can be seen here: http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/11/02/kerry.photo/

Without entering into the conservative vs. liberal fray, some comments about the way in which Elizabeth and Joy communicated on The View:

Elizabeth was calm, her remarks were to the point, and she was brief.

Joy was essentially yelling her comments throughout, would not give Elizabeth a chance to respond, even apparently driving Barbara to ask that Joy cede the floor to Elizabeth to respond.

My suggestion: let everyone on the panel express their point of view without drowning out anyone else. The point of having liberal AND conservative points of view is to allow both to air.

Those who hold a strong viewpoint should be able to listen to someone else's perspective without going over the top.
