Criminal Minds is beating Lost?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 3rd 2006 1:38PM

Criminal MindsJust when Lost should be regularly beating the competition - we're heading towards the three month break cliffhanger - the show is actually losing viewers. The episode the other night, where Eko was killed off, lost 1 million viewers from the previous week, and was beaten by CBS' Criminal Minds. (Brett talked about this last month.)

Wow, so 17 million viewers actually watch Criminal Minds? I've seen the show twice and didn't really see anything special about it. Are people that frustrated by Lost?

One part of the article I don't really understand though. It seems to have the attitude that the "a character is going to die" episodes of Lost should pull in more viewers, but why? How would you know that a character is going to die unless you actually watch the episode? The hardcore fans of the show and web geeks, the only ones who would know ahead of time that a death might be coming via web spoilers, they're watching the show anyway, so why would that matter? Why would a death of a major character bring a ratings spike? (Or am I totally missing the point here?)

The second island in LOST showed the writers know absolutely nothing about finishing storylines, and only care about establishing premices. They can't create a decent story with what they have and are "fleeing forward" in their writing. We are well into the 3rd season and NOTHING has been solved: the bears, the smoke, the giant thing, walt and his father, not to mention the others... It's not original TV, it's just bad writing. I only keep watching LOST to be able to maintain some conversation about it. IMHO, the show began to blow at Season 2, episode 1...

Lost is losing viewers because it's moving at a snails pace this year. After a month or so of episodes, we're still nowhere, other than learning more about everyone's back stories. ENOUGH! The viewers want some progression on the island like last year. I used to drop my jaw at least once per episode, now I'm yawning.

I don't schedual my life around television. I don't tape shows I'm going to miss. That's why I stopped watching Lost. It's a great show, but, I'm not home most Wednesday nights. Those nights I am home, I don't watch because I don't know what's going on unless I've read it here.

I know lots of viewers who share this view. We don't watch Serials because we don't want to dedicate an hour a week for each show we like. Enough of my time is already preplanned as it is. With Criminal Minds, you can miss three weeks and have no problem getting back into it. Besides, Criminal Minds is a cool show, too.

It would be great if you didn't give away plot lines in the episodes without at least putting it behind a cut-line (i.e. - Eko getting killed.) Some of us actually don't have the time to watch the episodes the night of, and record them for later viewing. Then we are careful about avoiding any reviews that may give away the story until we have watched it

When you pull a retarded move like you did in the "story" above you only piss us off -- try not to be so stupid in the future.

As one of the "older" viewers I'd like to say I've watched every episode of LOST since its inception. I sometimes get frustrated with re-runs and long absences, but I will stay with the show until the end.

I guess you can say I'm hooked even though I don't fit the traditional demographic profile.

I wasn't surprised to see Criminal Minds beating Lost, for I think Lost is just starting to get more ridiculous, rather than more interesting.I loved the character of Eko.I wanted more scenes with him and Locke, and him and Charlie-there was great chemistry in them.I thought his death scene was plain silly-a jumping the shark kind of thing.Well,Anna,Libby, and Eko are gone.Guess Bernard the dentist is next. What will the monster look like to him? A giant cavity?!!!

ferley is a moron. i've also left Lost. this show has been a complete bore this season, and i've watched it since episode 1. i'm simply tired of being presented one completely pointless mystery after another. have fun being a sheep, ferley. luckily, the NBA is back so it gives me and the other smart people (i.e. not ferley) something else to watch on Wednesday nights.

People complained that the show didn't progress, and now people complain they want the old stories back.

One thing - last week the pre-lim numbers were bad for lost, and yet the final rating showed an increase for Lost (to 17.1 total from 16.7 in the previous week). So lets wait!

LOST just doesn't have the same creative "oomph" that it had in the previous two seasons. I think the stories so far have been rather lackluster, and not as intriguing. And the Others seem rather, well, dull. Remember the good old days when Michael and Jin hid in the bushes, avoiding the Others, and all we saw were there feet. And that was a brilliantly shot, suspenseful moment. I am missing that this season. Oh, I still love the series. But it has been extremely slow out the gate this season, at least for me.

I'm sick of the Lost "mysteries". Solve something for once. Not like, "oh there's a door... that leads to another door... that leads to another door... that leads to another door... that leads to a HALLWAY... with another door... that leads to another door..." enough already. At least Criminal Minds gives me some satisfaction and conclusion every week not just the same poop. Oh the mystery the mystery. I swear, if I watch one more vision/flashback on Lot I'm going to strangle somebody. So yeah, no wonder people are tuning to watch Criminal Minds. Cause it's good and not something that makes me want to gauge my eyes out. But that's just me.
