Online petition to save Studio 60

by Anna Johns, posted Nov 3rd 2006 8:07AM
studio 60 logoIn response to all the buzz about Studio 60's weak ratings and whispers of its possible cancellation, one die-hard fan is taking evasive action. Clay Johnson has launched SaveStudio60.com, where he has an online petition to keep the show on the air and encourages readers to buy things from the companies that advertise on Studio 60 (although, I think this tactic is far-fetched because I don't think Apple is going to deduce that you bought an iPod because you saw one advertised on Studio 60). Johnson says the show is worth keeping on the air simply because it's "smart television". So far, 1,000 people have signed the petition.

Johnson launched the website after the fourth episode of Studio 60 as a pre-emptive strike to encourage the network not to put it on hiatus or cancel it outright. He points to internet movements to save Firefly (which led to the movie, Serenity) and Arrested Development, which also couldn't be saved, and suggests that early action may be the key to saving a show.

It's an admirable effort, and I agree that Studio 60 needs a full season. However, I'd like to start a petition to move it to a decent night and time.

It took a while to warm up. I think the "fake" sketches are not funny, so that part is not beleivable.I don't buy the Harriet character, it's boring...and not because she is a Christian...she's just a boring Christian...and I don't get the "she's a comic genius" bit...because she's boring.....did I mention she's BORING...please fix that...why are a baseball player, Head Writer and Motion Picture Director interested in her (in LA no less)...because she is a comic genius? Can't be that...because she's hot...in LA world I'm sure she's not...because she has high moral standards? Yeah guys get hot over that...PLEASE, it doesn't make sense that everyone is attracted to her, and there is absolutely no chemistry between her and Matt. The way to turn this around is the Jordan and Danny angle...I am liking his character ALOT.....any guy who will stop you while eating an sandwhich and tell you they are twice divorced, and a recovering addict who's falling in love with you and you better start running, cause he's gonna get you...NOW THERE IS YOUR STORY...who doesn't want someone to say that???!! Imperfect people(recovering addicts, people who sleep with ex-boyfriends to get info and get knocked up) that is relatable stuff...I want to root for those rich, LA dysfunctional kids to get together! and I like the chemistry between him and Matt....I like the writers and wish they would show more of that part of the show...the corporate side is not very interesting...it needs some re tooling, but there are moments of brilliance...I hope they get a chance to get it right.

All of you bitching that this is not good tv can't possibly have seen the John Goodman as judge episode.
I'll admit that it isn't as demanding as, say Deal or No Deal. Now THATS entertainment. Greedy pinheads on parade...it's bound to be a winner.
To Carrisa...I'll say if you can write better you should sell all your shit and move to LA now.
To Hank...Can't there be Friday Night Lights, The Nine and Studio 60?
Finally to Dave...just because YOU don't want to watch Stephen Hawking for an hour doesn't mean that others won't. (Brief History of Time)?

Studio 60 is the smartest and most culturally relevant show to come along in years. The news that it is going to be cut only makes me think the network (NBC) is as scared of it as the NBS executives are of the fictitious sketch subjects on the show.

If I get called dumb one more time again by people because I don't like the show they will get kicked.

The show is no good, bad shows go bye-bye.

This is sad, not because Studio 60 will be canceled, but because there are so many better shows that should be saved. Studio 60 is drivel compared to this season's best new shows like Friday Night Lights and The Nine. THOSE shows need saving. Studio 60 should just die a silent death.

Studio 60 is a horrible show, the comedy sketches that are in the show are not funny at all and unlike other shows I don't care about those boring characters. I really do hope this crap gets canceled.

I am so sick of reading about people who think this show makes you think. Yes, it does. It makes me think I could write more riveting storylines.

Yes, I have been watching it, more to see if it will actually live up to any expectation rather than because I enjoy it. It's kind of like voting, I can't complain about who's been elected unless I vote; I can't complain about this show unless I watch.

I have to again go back to the episode "The Wrap Party" where Eli Wallach took a picture off the wall and was wandering around. It took me approximately 30 seconds to know he was in the picture and used to work in the studio. When that tidbit was revealed they acted like it was the unveiling of the century. Top that with the "black humor" portion of the show, and you have some incredibly bad writing. Yes, the "humor" about chicken and treating women poorly was hideously indicitive of what everyone expects of "black humor" but the dude they found at the comedy club was just plain unfunny. Because he can write an article about what really pains blacks doesn't mean he can be funny about it.

That whole show was just pointing to average America to tell us how stupid we are, when the actual lack of intelligence was in the writing itself. That's not only demeaning to America, its just plain pathetic.

Slow it down a little, and a little less precious please. But keep Amanda Peet!

Note to Bob Sassone: Even voting a thousand times on this petition wont save this horrible show.
