Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Party All the Time

by Jonathan Toomey, posted Nov 4th 2006 10:06AM

Shake sticks his hand into a beehive.

(S04E06) (This is an early review courtesy of the Adult Swim Fix) What a crazy episode! It was all over the place and I loved ever second of it. This is the Aqua Teen Hunger Force that I remember -- smart, topical. As much as I liked "Dickesode," it was just potty humor and this was a by far superior episode. You know something I just noticed though? Why is there no short to the open the episode? At least when they got rid of Dr. Weird, we transitioned to Spacecataz. Now there's nothing and that sucks. Oh well, moving on.

Speaking of Dr. Weird, I loved that Shake still has the guitar that Ignignokt and Err stole from Dr. W in the very first Mooninites episode. Even funnier is the fact that Shake can't play it for the life of him and Meatwad is a guitar guru. You'd think Shake would be better though. After all, this isn't his first time attempting to make his mark with music. Remember "Spirit Journey Formation Anniversary?" Great song.

So while Shake was shoving his hands into a bee hive (he needed big, swollen hands to grind that axe because Meatwad called his hands little), Frylock went to the doctor and was diagnosed with cancer. Odd topic for this show to touch on, but is anything ever off limits with ATHF? I think I liked Meatwad's diagnosis (which was partially right) better: "Well I'm no doctor, but that right there looks like melanoma... beef bologna."

Andrew WKSo once Meatwad, Shake, and Carl found out about the diagnosis, they did what anyone would do if a good friend was diagnosed with cancer. They invited Andrew WK over to sing songs about partying! I never listened to his stuff but I remember I got really sick of that one big song he had because it was on the soundtrack to Madden a few years ago. 2003 maybe? Whatever, still brilliant because only this show could have Andrew WK guest star and then make Olivia Newton-John references. Meatwad singing "Let's Get Physical" was priceless.

Now here's a task for everyone out there. In this episode, Shake ate a scorpion, choked on it, and we watched him die. Two scenes later, he was back in action wearing a party hat. I want to know how many times each character in this show has died over the course of 61 episodes. Anyone keeping track of this stuff?

Anywho, a great episode all around and to top it off, it had one of the best Shake lines in recent memory.

Shake (trouncing on Frylock's suggestion that they use his new time machine): "Shut up and listen to the wail of my banshee fingers!"

On his website, Andrew W.K. says "I've been very honored to have this opportunity. I've loved the show and the charachters - I'm so thrilled to have a chance to be in their world, a two dimensional flatland. Plus, I really loved the song they wrote for me to sing. It was based partly on the feeling in my song, "Long Live The Party", from my second album, "The Wolf", but "Party Party Party" has a spirit all its own, and seems more centered on a self-aware, mirror of this music. They had me record the vocals, piano and additional arrangements, and they had the guitar track and a drum track for me to play along with. I was very happy with the entire experience - again, I consider it an honor."

That is a brand new AWK song for those of you interested. #6 is WRONG! Long live the party (track two off the wolf) almost sounds like it, but more so the origional track version "Old Man" off of the Party till you puke EP off Bulb records. If anyone has any idea what the name of this new song and if AWK actually wrote it, let us no!

Did anyone notice that hat Frylock was wearing ater his Chemo?

It had an Aqua Teen Investigations logo. (probably a sneek-peak of ATHF movie merch) I need that hat.

Will no one address the hysterical fact that no one used the time machine? And that Shake burned it down with the house instead of using it?

There were so many better quotes than the one you picked, and I typically agree with you on your quotes! The one that is sticking out to me right now is, "He's dead. The dumbass ate a scorpion." Haha. I had to pause it after that line.

Also, did anyone else notice the banner fro Frylock's party that said, "Get Well Asshole." and that in the beginning the last time Meatwad rewound the tape for Shake, it said instead of the warped backwards speaking, "You're a dick." Oh man. So many subtle jokes in this show too. It's amazing.

Actually David, the episode has aired. It's viewable right now at the Adult Swim Fix:

I realize you're referencing the fact that it hasn't aired on TV yet, but that's why I preface all my ATHF posts with the "this is an early review" disclaimer.
