Ask TV Squad: Is The Closer returning?

by Richard Keller, posted Nov 4th 2006 11:15AM

Cast of The CloserTV Squad reader Bill Pruett asks 'What's with The Closer? There have been a few episodes than . . . nada. I can't even find a web site for the show. Will it ever get on some sort of regular schedule?'

Actually, Bill, The Closer is on a regular schedule. It is a summer series for TNT that normally begins in June and runs for about 15 episodes. So, you won't see it on a fall schedule, unless it's in repeats. The good news is that it has been renewed for another season, which will begin in the summer of 2007.

For the unknowing, The Closer is a crime drama starring Kyra Sedgwick as police detective Brenda Leigh Johnson. Although her social skills are a bit lacking, she does have the unique ability to get to the truth in criminal cases and close them out. Which is great, since they only have about 60 minutes (40 with commercials) to find out who did the crime. This season the show broke a ratings record for originally scripted, basic cable series. The last original episode of The Closer aired at the beginning of September. However, the two-part season finale, directed by Sedgwick's husband Kevin Bacon (name sounds familiar), will air in December. By the way, Bill, the website for The Closer can be found at this link.

Hi again TVsquad. Just thought of another one. In my e-mail confirmations for my comments it says, "P.S.: For future reference, you may avoid these confirmations by using your e-mail and password:" For the life of me I can't see where I can input my e-mail and password to avoid the e-mails. Am I missing something?

Hi TVsquad. I have a couple of questions/comments. I'm not sure where to post them since there's really no link.

I'd like you to review "Brothers and Sisters". This show is really shaping up to be one of my favorites. I'd love to see reviews and comments about it.

What's the future hold for the current system of show's sponsors/commercials/Nielsen ratings since more and more people DVR and TiVO their favorite shows and skip the commercials? Not to mention that shows are available on broadband after they air.

I rarely watch live TV anymore - once you get into the habit of not watching commercials it's really hard to go back and have to watch them again.

Am I the only one that thinks it is kind of stupid they are airing these one shot episodes out of nowhere? Monk is doing the same thing on November 17 with its special holiday episode. It seems like most fans of these networks won't know about the episode, and it will get horrible ratings (especially since there aren't any other reasons to watch USA or TNT and see the promos for the special episodes)

They should have squeezed it in at the end of the regular season, or put it at the beginning of the next season.

Got another question for TV Squad: Is Saved coming back? On the site's blog, the last entry says they aren't sure (from August).

TNT actually announced that the 2 parter will air on Dec 4, 2006. Personally, I can't wait--wonderful show with a stellar cast that interacts perfectly with Kyra's quirky Brenda.
