Studio 60 to get a full season?

by Bob Sassone, posted Nov 7th 2006 7:44PM
Studio 60 logoRay Richmond over at The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip creator and head writer Aaron Sorkin today and found out that not only have the ratings for the show the past few weeks made the execs at NBC happier than they were, but that a full season order for the show might be coming any hour or day now. Another source at the network said they would be very surprised if the show wasn't picked up this week.

Here's a quote from Sorkin that is interesting, especially since it addresses something that is often talked about here in our comments section:

"Hopefully soon people will start paying attention to the show instead of who's making it," Sorkin told me today. "I really look at it as just the cost of doing business. I knew the reaction to the show was going to be a little bit noisier than I'd prefer. But hopefully, we're finally settling in and the audience is seeing the amazing cast and acknowledges the great, committed group of people who are behind this show."

Sorkin also makes a few comments about how TiVo and the web have not only changed how viewers see their favorite shows, but also how the networks look at the numbers and make their decisions on what to do.

This is good news for Studio 60 fans, and television fans in general. If there's one show on the air right now that deserves more time and more episodes, it's this one.

Funny how some 'fly-over' state folks can laugh at the jokes made at the expense of the right and left coasters but are pussyboys when its about themselves. Heaven forbid a character not like growing up in suburban Columbus; I guess it would have been okay had he not like growing up in Hoboken.

Though I can see how a sketch about the head of the evangelicals being a closeted gay meth freak would offend some - oh, sorry, that was on the NEWS.

I'm not loving Studio 60 the way I did Sports Night and West Wing, but I'm glad to see it's been given a full season. We'll see what happens.

Yeah Gabe because you are SOO much better than the rest of America. You are the problem in America and not the solution.

I like Studio 60 and it is better television then other crap is out there. Most of america has been dumbed down and all they watch is the reality shows and all reality shows are crap. When I watch tv I want to watch something entertaining that has a little more smarts to it then a bunch of stupid people in reality shows.

I think this show is picking up. Sometimes you just have to let the show grow. NBC has a very very bad habit of cancelling good things... (Boomtown, Heist) and I am very happy to see another good show not get the ax.

It's hard to forget who's making the show when the whole project is so onanistic, Aaron.

Studio 60 is a fast-paced, interesting, sometimes challenging show. There are very funny moments and ideas that appeal to me, and that keeps me watching. I happen to come from one of the "fly-over" states and am not at all offended by this show ably demonstrating the prejudice (real or perceived) that people on both coasts have against those of us in the Midwest. Why should this show ignore the "prejudice" if it exists? Recognize that it is a television show and either enjoy it as fiction, or turn it off.

Fail to see the logic why this is good news for television fans in general. If it's a bad show, that many people have already rejected, wouldn't it be good news for television fans in general if NBC replaced the show with something viewers actually want to watch?

I no longer watch S60, but am amused by the righteousness of its remaining viewers. They are loyal, but a little to high and mighty.

Yes because canceling Studio 60 on NBC will really make CBS bring back Smith. Idiots.

Even Joey lasted more than a season. Doesn't mean I'm going to watch this show. It's too bad they keep crap like this on the air, and cancel Smith. I would have much prefered to watch that show instead.

I hope it gets picked up because I couldn't stand to see Matthew Perry get cancelled-he looks too vulnerable, and for some strange reason I do like him with Harriet.
