People's Choice Awards nominees announced

People's Choice AwardsThe People's Choice Awards nominees were announced yesterday. The television nominees, which you can check out after the jump, aren't terribly surprising or all that interesting. For the most part, the picks reflect what's in the Nielsen top twenty with the exception of Jennifer Love Hewitt, who made the list again this year for "favorite female TV star." I'm beginning to suspect that Ms. Hewitt has a hardcore following over at Knowledge Networks, the market research company that compiles the votes.

The nomination process for the People's Choice Awards is a little less reflective of the proletariat's will than one might suspect given the "people's" part of the award title. Knowledge Networks finds a "nationally representative panel" of "pop culture-involved" men and women ages 18-49 and then gives them a list of candidates determined by "ratings averages, box-office grosses and album sales." They have a write-in option, but for the most part the nominees are pre-determined.

What we, the people, get to choose from is a list of the three nominees left standing. I'm sure the system is fine, but why not skip the focus group and go straight to the internet? I'm sure TV Squad readers would have come up with a slightly different list of nominees. Take a look, and tell the PCA what you think. The Awards show airs on Tuesday, January 9th at 9PM on CBS.

I agree some of the nominees aren't reflected on all of my favorites but some of them are. I work with The People's Choice Community and I voted today at www.pcavote.com. You can also enter to win a VIP trip to The People's Choice Awards in Hollywood.

No South Park, Office, or Steve Carell? what a joke, good call on King of the Hill though, very underrated

Why do the people polled have to be not older than 49? That's discrimination. Since the People's Choice awards have been on, I have never had a chance to nominate any of my favorites. I want my favorite people and shows to be counted too. No wonder the nominees are the same every year.

They really picked the cream of the crop here huh? Can we, the viewers, really be that stupid? There are FAR better shows out there than what's been nominated. Same goes for the actors and actresses.
