Is Day Break already cancelled?

Taye DiggsOk, cancelled may be a little strong. Maybe changed to a limited run would be better. I ask because, if you watched Lost last night, you must have caught the Daybreak previews. There was an interesting bit at the end of the first one. "Every question will have an answer. And in 13 weeks, the mystery will be solved." Given the complaints about answers with Lost, and the performance of The Nine, I can understand why the network would want to assure viewers that they are not about to be jerked around and strung along again. But you could also take it that they are going to tell this story in 13 episodes and be done with it, moving on to whatever next season's hot formula is.

That's all just speculation, of course. If it turns out to be the case though, I like it. Some ideas are just not compatible with an open ended, we don't know how long it's going to go, format. There's something to be said for knowing how much story you have to tell, getting to it, and stopping when you're done.

I am going to jump on the bandwagon...and agree too this show looks very interesting, and knowing that we will get answers is great!...I really like the idea of Taye Diggs learning more and more with each day... Not to mention he is just a nice piece of eye candy:) Can't wait!

It's always been ABC's plan to cap "Daybreak" at 13 episodes this season. And, as other commenters have said, should the show by some miracle do well enough to get picked up, it would be a different Groundhog Day experience the next time around.

I agree with MrsEldubya's definition of mini-series versus a limited run series. And I think everyone else has hit it on the head with this being a good example of a show built for that.

I think promoting it this way is a good move on ABC's part as well. I'm much more interested in the show now that they have come out and said that there will be an answer at the end of the run. I'm not sure that it will work as an ongoing series, but we'll have to see how this first one goes.

I had the same thought as many here: Every season of Daybreak would simply be a different day that repeats itself across the seasons. But would viewers have the patience to watch the same day repeat 22 times? I think 13 episodes per season would be best.

As the series continues on across more than one season, they could develop an overall story arc where Digg's character learns how it is certain days in his life are repeating, and who may be behind it.

The new My Network TV (UPN's replacement) is doing exactly this with their series "Desire" and "Fashion House" which are designed to run Monday - Friday for 13 weeks before they begin new limited run series. They are following the telenovela formula. Plus, they've been doing this in England for years, sometimes producing as few as six episodes of a show which could run for one "series" or more, with sometimes a year or more between "series." It's a good concept and it does allow viewers to know that there will be a resolution so they won't be afraid to invest the time only to have the show cancelled after three episodes.

Right there with you Douglin. "After he gets one day right, the show could jump ahead to another bad day that would start repeating."

Basically like 24, every season is a different story, but the same concept is there. (24 episodes is just too many IMO).

I think the need to just show it like regular tv shows. Once I start watching something, i dont want to watch reruns after a few weeks.

I was thinking about this too. I was thinking that they could do two 13 episode seasons. The first one is the same day over and over as he get's closer to the truth, then in the season final we see that the day has changed. Then in season two he figures what the hell is really going on in the new day that starts to repeat.
