Maher's quotes about gay Republicans cut from Larry King interview - VIDEO

Mehlman heads the RNC, what rights exactly is he actively working to take away that were had before? Also, what role was his in trying to take them away?

As someone here mentioned, there are plenty of gay republicans, namely the Log cabin republicans. Not all gay republicans agree with the extremist right, just as I am sure that not all democrats agree with the militant left.

Again, it is perfectly appropriate to out someone who actively works to take away the rights of a certain group of people as being a part of that group of people.

The hateful don't get the common courtesy that normal people deserve.

As an out, proud lesbian, I think that Bill Maher did the right thing... I think that anyone who actively opposes equal rights for gay men and lesbians but is gay themselves deserves to be outed.

I would imagine it was edited out for legal reasons. Airing it live, King would have little responsibility, since he would be unaware what Maher was going to say. Airing a taped version could leave them open to a potential slander suit. Maher himself acknowledged this.

Maher is a weasal for wanting to expose someones personal life. I thought it was GLAD's position to respect a gay persons right to stay in the closet.

It's fairly habitual for the Party chairmen to quit or change jobs after an election, especially a lousy one. Look at how Howard Dean got his job when Kerry lost the election. Even the Republican Chair Gilespie quit. I doubt it's because he's gay.

On another note, isn't politics just like show business these days? All this drama and scandal, and everyone behind the scenes is gay. Before you know it Nancy Pelosi will be on the cover of US Weekly looking "dangerously thin".

It's interesting that Ken Mehlman quit the next day. I'm sure that was planned, but nevertheless shows the hypocracy of these holier-than-thou Republicans.

I'm a little disappointed that Bill Maher didn't list all the gay or rumoured-to-be-gay Republicans on his Friday night show.

What bothers me about this: You book a guy like Bill precisely because he makes statements like this, and then when when he actually says it, you say you can't have that on TV? Memo to CNN: if you can't stand the heat, don't invite crazy chefs into the kitchen.

Let me just say before anyone questions what Maher had to say about Mehlman - it's one of the worst kept secrets in DC, as he's been seen on occasion at one of the more popular gay bars in the District.

You didn't need to live in the east to see the comments--you just had to have been watching it live (as I was). It was on at 6 PM on the west cost (where I live).
