Reba returns to the WB, er CW, this Sunday

The cast of RebaFor those of you who have been dreading a year without Reba, you can now relax. After rumors about the network ditching the show proved false, and after star Reba McEntire renegotiated her contract for more money , the sitcom will begin its sixth season next Sunday.

In the one-hour season premiere Barbara Jean (Melissa Peterman) shows off her new, thinner figure and her dedication to exercising at the gym. This gives Brock (Christopher Rich) pause because he fears that Barbara Jean's new male trainer is the reason for her continued visits. So, he enlists ex-wife Reba to spy on her. Meanwhile Chyenne (JoAnna Garcia) is afraid of losing her looks after Van (Steve Howey) is caught staring at Barbara Jean's new figure. If I may be a bit sarcastic for a moment; I don't know how they're going to fit all of this hilarity into a 60-minute program.

Having said that, I actually like Reba. It's one of the few sitcoms that I can actually watch without cringing at some of the dialogue and jokes. Plus, it's a show that you can watch as a family, which is rare in network television today. You can view a preview of the season premiere by clicking here.

My husband watch Reba all the time and we were upset when we couldn't find it this fall. There's only about 5 TV programs that we enjoy watching. I think all the networks need to fire their programing executives considering all the terrible shows on TV. It's hard to believe the good programs that were axed. I'd like to see more programs like Reba were everyone in the family can watch it. I can take only so much of the food network (and I do like some of their shows).

OK, the grandma remark maybe out of line! Anyway, I really enjoy this show. None of the cast is exacatly an acting dynamo, especially Reba, but it is a consistently funny family sitcom. I have to say Steve Howey and Melissa Peterman are damn funny. You can bet I'll be watching.

At a time when TV audiences are supposedly screaming for something edgy, have you ever stopped to think about the actual premises of "Reba?"

Hardworking divorced mom Reba struggles to create a new relationship with her shallow ex-husband while becoming nearly best friends with the woman who stole him away in the first place. And meanwhile, Reba's daughter is knocked up my her boyfriend. They marry and can't afford to leave home.

"Reba" has suffered being on the WB (and now the CW.) I always thought idea really sounds more like a Fox show. And :hip" audiences may be deceived by Reba McEntyre's natural likability. Maybe the "edgy" choice would have been somebody tougher looking/sounding like another Roseanne type. But for the viewers this show aims at, who can they relate to better than Reba, whose talent people have underestimated at every point in her career.

And the CW is now owned by CBS. And Reba seems like a natural fit among CBS comedies like "King Of Queens." Has anyone ever thought of giving her a few weeks trial like NBC did with "Battlestar Galactica" or ABC did with "Monk?" With networks so desperate for audience and viewer loyalty, what coulod there possibly be to lose?
