Report: America's Next Top Model goes plus size

by Anna Johns, posted Nov 14th 2006 10:34AM
tyra banksTMZ.com is reporting that the next batch of contestants on America's Next Top Model will be... er... heftier than the past models. That's not to say that they're going to be officially "plus size", as in size 14 or larger, but the girls in the next go-around will reportedly be meatier than past skin-and-bones models. Yeah, they'll probably be a size 2 instead of a zero. Oh, the horror! Maybe they'll be less bitchy than the other girls since they're not starving? Where's the fun in that?!?

I agree with you totally. I'm so sick of how the fashion industry ignores plus-size women and how they keep lowering the bar. By that I mean, they started out saying plus-size starts at size 12-14. Now they're treating a sizes 8-10 as plus-size. What do they want? A whole world of anorexic clones???? It's just a shame what the industry and the media are doing to women. We need to rise up and let them know we're not going to take it anymore.

Great for Tyra but if you want to see a real plus size competition, call Mo'Nique, she definately be able to do the job.

Is it just my age (I watched MASH when it was first being broadcast), or are the people who watch ANTM (as exemplified above) more concerned with appearances than with content - like punctuation?

that's just irritating, harmony. plus size women always call themselves things like "real girls" or "curvy", making it seem like thin women are abnormal or "fake". im very thin, and have had to deal with criticism my entire life. so just because someone doesn't look like you, it doesnt mean that they're necessarily doing something unnatural. maybe they are eating, as you say: "a steak sandwich with all the fixins" ::cringes at both the idea of a steak sandwich and the word "fixins":: on a daily basis.

they need to do something. this season is boring. the challenges are not interesting and the pretty girls got voted off early.

If they have some real plus-size women, I might actually watch.

Does that mean they'll be getting rid of that lesbian bartender otherwise known as Jay Manuel?
