Comedy Central's MotherLoad finally shows some Mac love

by Annie Wu, posted Nov 17th 2006 12:04PM
MotherloadComedyCentral.com's online video section, the MotherLoad, has always been a source of frustration. The clips don't always work and, when they do, they usually take forever to load. Of course, Mac users didn't have to deal with those troubles, because, well, the MotherLoad isn't Mac-friendly. So, most users turned to YouTube to get their fill of Comedy Central goodies... and they -- by "they", I mean "we" -- were horrified when a majority of the channel's content started disappearing from the site.

Folks, finally, some good news is here. Comedy Central is planning on giving a make-over to their site, including a revamp on the MotherLoad feature. The new player will be Flash-based and more friendly towards users with Macs, older PCs, or pop-up blockers. In a strange sort of way, I'm disgusted by how excited I am about this.

Who cares there's nothing good to watch on Motherload anyways..
I can get South Park episodes off Itunes

That cartoon with the two testicles is the lamest thing ever.

Having complained here in the past about sites that shun the Mac, it's now incumbent upon me to say huzzah and kudos, Comedy Central! And thank you Annie for bringing to us these good tidings of great joy!

We've discussed this before, but Motherload sucks so badly that only a complete teardown and start-over can save it. I don't know if it's a bandwidth problem on their end or a software problem, but clips don't load and they don't play. They should just work something out with Youtube and spare everyone the frustration.

Woo-hoo!!! Awesome news - thank you, thank you, thank you!

Now what to do about all the other mac-ignorers?

Rumor has it that Rupert Murdoch is really competitive. Do you think taunting him from a random comment board will help the cause? Just in case:

Hear that FOX?! Even basic cable wants our eyeballs more than you do! Where's the mac love, FOX? Beating in the liberal heart of Mr. John Stewart, that's where!

Now anybody have a strategy for AOL in2tv? Before the holidays would be ideal, because everybody - all races and creeds, all pc AND mac users - should be able to come together for very special Christmas episodes of classic TV. Like Eight is Enough. (spoiler alert: little Nicholas mistakes a strange man for Santa Clause)
