Smallville: Static

(S06E08) Lex is phase-shifted or something into another dimension, where he can look and listen, but not touch. You'd think that Lex would like this situation, at least temporarily, as gathering secret intelligence on loved ones is one of favorite pastimes. Chloe tells Lana that seeing Lex turn into static is no stranger than a lot of things that have happened in Smallville. Not to mention on multiple episodes of various Star Trek series. Because of this dilemma, the episode is packed to the gills with Lex/Lana longing for each other across a void.
Hey, from a distance, the evil nerd who imprisons Lex looks a bit like a young version of Heroes' Horn-Rim Glasses Guy. In the end, Black-Rimmed Glasses Kid will prove to be no match for Jimmy Olsen's ham radio skills.
Even Kal-El can't be in two places at once, but I'm surprised that Chloe was so taken aback by Clark's decision to run down a Zoner in Seattle rather than help solve Lex's disappearance. But that's not as silly as Clark wandering into a hazard area to be greeted with "you must be that first-year medical student I've been waiting for." Please.
In Seattle, Clark stalks the new Zoner's trail of mayhem, which probably would have gone quicker if he could fly. If Black-Rim Glasses Kid can figure out he can shift "frequencies" since the most recent meteor shower, then Clark ought to have sussed out this flying business by now. The Zoner's just lunkhead throwaway baddie with an extremely high metabolism. But he actually gives Clark a superhero name: Krypton Man. I don't think it'll stick.
Leaving Clark on his own, without Chloe, or another series regular, is not a great strategy. Tom Welling is left to tramp earnestly from location to location, interviewing Seattle medical and law enforcement professionals, until he's rescued by a mysterious shadowy guy with glowing eyes. This guy can fly (hint, hint Clark) but doesn't stay to chat with Clark. Also, he likes Oreos -- sort of. At least he likes to nibble around the edges before dropping them for Clark to find.
Lana has a scene with Chloe where she discounts any possibility that Lex might have been up to something dirty with 331. But later she lets Lex know she's totally on board with any hypothetical secret programs to study and possibly dissect meteor freaks. The final moment of the episode is supposed to be some big surprise for the audience, but given that it's already been revealed Lana is carrying little Larry or Lucinda Luthor, it just struck me as not that big a deal.
Not nearly enough Chloe for me this week, but I guess the thinking here was to give Jimmy a chance to shine. In the last couple scenes Chloe did have, she was tricked out with these distracting ginourmous earrings that threatened to smack her in the lip if she had happened to whip her head around too fast.
