Battlestar Galactica moving to Sundays starting Jan. 21

by Joel Keller, posted Nov 21st 2006 10:55AM
Battlestar Galactica Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune reports that the SciFi channel will be moving Battlestar Galactica from Fridays to Sundays, starting when it comes back from its hiatus on January 21. The show will air at 10 PM ET. This was a move that had been in the rumor mill for a while, so it's not completely unexpected.

(FYI: Keith called his contact at NBC Universal and they confirmed the move. So it's official.)

Of course, they could be moving the show because of the lower ratings it has been getting compared to last year. But Sunday might be a good night for BSG, since the competition (like Brothers & Sisters) doesn't exactly attract the same fan base. It's a move that's not unprecedented; The X-Files established itself with its sci-fi core audience on Fridays before FOX moved it to Sundays and a bigger audience.

Since I go to bed early on Sundays for a very early work day on Monday, moving the show to Sunday doesn't work for me. I enjoy it on Friday nights because I don't have to worry about getting up early the next day. Sundays is going to make it hard to catch.

David # 7: There WILL be a season 4 IMO. SCIFI has promoted the shit out of this season, and the ratings may not be there to support their fall programming decisions, but I still think they are 100% behind BSG as their "tentpole" program. BSG brings(IMO) credibility and positive feedback in areas SCIFI has never had before. It IS their most critically acclaimed show EVER. I WANT better ratings for BSG. EVERYONE WHO LOVES GREAT TELEVISION SHOULD BE WATCHING THIS SHOW. And Friday night has become a night that "network" shows are succeeding in nowadays. It is no longer the domain of the cable networks. Sunday can be a good fit for BSG.
Also, I think SCIFI has a new original series called "The Dresden Files" as BSGs' lead in. Correct me if I'm wrong about this Akbar, but am I right?
New ORIGINAL programming from SCIFI on a Sunday night? SCIFI is taking a lot of risks this year and I just hope they pay off for my beloved BSG...

That being said...who knows what the execs at SciFI/NBC/Universal are up to. They could end it after this season. I strongly doubt it...BUT...it is SciFi(also home of "made for a buck" films and ECW). Let's hope not...SO SAY WE ALL!!!!!!

Akbar: Dean Stockwell involved in some of "the orgasms and high sexual situations". Didn't see that scene coming down the pipeline towards the beginning of the season. :)
And you're right. There has been no censorship since the time slot change to 9PM this season. This show is just as ballsy as its always been.

I'm fine w/ this move. I don't think this a bad decision at all. I'll follow BSG anywhere.

stupid censorship? One muting of the word 'shit' now equals stupid censorship?

How about all of the orgasms and high sexual situations we have seen on the show this season. Where exactly was the stupid censorship there?

One muted word is not the end of the world.

Not sure what to make of it but hopefully moving the show to a 10pm timeslot with ease up on some of the stupid censorship we've seen on the show lately.

Sigh. I'm actually one of those apparently few people who watch Battlestar Galactica *AND* Brothers & Sisters. Sigh, indeed.

Since I never watch it "live", the night of the week it airs doesn't matter to me personally, but if Sundays brings better ratings, then it's a good move and *that* matters to me.

Yeah the break this year is only a few weeks because they are trying to run all the episodes in a row, like 24, Lost, ect. That means after about March and the true season finale we will have to wait like 8 months again to see season 4. If there is a season 4.

Glenn,

We get three more episodes starting next week.
'Unfinshed Business' 'The Passage' and 'The Eye of Jupiter'

Then roughly a month off and we get back in late Jan.
