Fox is looking really bad in this O.J. deal

by Anna Johns, posted Nov 21st 2006 8:34PM
oj simpsonThe O.J. Simpson saga isn't quite over. Sure, Fox pulled his interview and cancelled his book about hypothetically killing his wife and her friend, in response to public outrage. But, now Nicole Brown Simpson's family is accusing Fox News Corp. of trying to pay them off. On the Today show this morning, Denise Brown said the company offered her family and Ron Goldman's family "hush money" in exchange for their silence when the book and television interview with O.J. came out. Fox News Corp. denies it of course, only confirming that it did offer the families ALL of the proceeds from the book. How sick is that? The company actually thought the Brown and Goldman families would accept money made off a book that describes the 'hypothetical' killing of their family members. Of course, the families refused the money.

By the way, how long do you think it will take for the O.J. Simpson interview to wind up on YouTube?

This whole book and promotion of it is appalling. However, the selective "blood money" that the Brown and Goldman family will accept is even more appalling!

This supposed "Hush Money" how is it so different from the liens and blood sucking that OJ is supposed to pay to the family.
Does that bring back your loved ones? NO and does it really make OJ "PAY" Please, he has got around the whole thing and is walking free. Goofing and golfing and having a grand old time.

I feel sorry that these two young lives were taken. I feel sorrier that their families are yapping and have become celebrities looking for cash in every way they can. May the souls rest in peace,
There are two kids motherless, there was a young man Ron, taken too early.
His parents got real concerned when the cash was involed, His father in particular.
Let it all rest.
People talk about tort reform and insurance reform. How bout everybody and their mother suing for money for wrongful death? It does not bring them back, Do your loved ones have a price? Maybe it was not a high enough offer from Fox, after all the survivors would have collected some of the money they were hungry to get their hands on. Why be so selective?

I agree with antibarbie....enough waste of our time and emotion was spent in the 90's with a trial that was decided upon jury selection, it doesn't matter what any jury found, fair Americans without an agenda know who is guilty .... the public is sick of it and the press needs to just forget that man exists and give him no air time, EVER, for any reason. I never even want to see those letters in print again unless we are speaking of orange juice.

If the Brown's and Goldman's didn't want the money why did they sue OJ in civil court. I think the whole lot of them are publicity hounds and since they couldn't gain notoriety on their own, they are using OJ and Nicole as their claim to fame!
I think if people want to buy the book or watch the interview, that should be their privilege. Put it on pay per view!

"What Fox was doing in soliciting OJ and offering hush money is reprehensible." This is a quote from a previous poster which pretty much says it all. Not only was it reprehensible but it was very stupid of the person/people who orignally made the deal. In my opinion, the book deal & interview gave Fox a really bad smell which will stick in peoples mind for quite a while. And I believe Bill ORiley saw how it was going down & wisely wanted to separate himself from the fiasco.

Yeah, the civil suit was decided in favor of the Browns, but OJ has never paid them. That's why Mr Brown tried to sue for OJ's publicity rights. I think Fox may be a bunch of jerks, but they did the right thing by offering ALL proceeds to the families. It's the only way they will ever collect on the judgement they already have against OJ. Personally, I think he should write the book, Then I think it should be considered a confession, and therefore "new evidence", and cause for a new trial.

FOX IN(KILLER)SHEEPS CLOTHING.................
They are an irresponsible source of news and no one should take what they have to say seriously, it's all spun, they are representing the people who do not want Americans to think for themselves.........example........taking funds away from public schools.........that is off the point.
Fox news is the TV equivalent to the Nation Enquirer.
How could they have even considered such a project? Do they want to announce to the rest of the world that our justice system is more flawed than we thought.

comment #11, do you really think O.J. is broke? Please don't defend his honor when it comes to paying back the families that he murdered. I wish I was as "broke" as him...without the whole killing two people thing, of course! PLEASE make Paris Hilton, Kfed and O.J. go away! ENOUGH...stop the madness!

Fox looking bad????? This is corporate america not the pulpit of a southern church. When the money dried up so did the deal. All of this pious moralizing may make you feel better but it does not get you any closer to understanding what happenned. And the only way someone will get fired is for not bringing in the big profits originally envisioned. Where are the grown ups???

Murdoch did the right thing pulling this when he did, realising astutely that the big advertisers were getting cold. It's not important that there were two families out there being exploited for some cheap publicity, what really counts is that on a fundemental level the idea was not as they say 'a winner'. Yes, we can sit up all night debating how a man cleared of murder, in what was in my opinion, one of the fairest and least biased trials ever to have been conducted in America, can sit in front of a camera and speculate on how he might of done it if he had, er, done it. But at the end of the day it's just not that entertaining is it? I mean I can see how it might be entertaining to hear a seasoned sports pro commenting on how they might have played differently in a tournament or maybe a president commenting on what could of happened had a election turned out differently, but O.J Simpson? Please! What's next? Winnona Ryder, If I was going to steal some clothes, here's how. Or, Mike Tyson, I Didn't Rape Her, But If Was Going To, Here's How I Would Have Done It. Actually maybe not that last one. I mean cold-blooded murder is one thing, but rape, nobody wants to hear about that, do they?

The people have spoken, and they said "We"re sick of Oj Simpson." We have all wasted enough time in the 90's on this sad piece of human garbage. When is the media going to finally stop trying to capitilize on the pain and suffering of victims of hideous crimes? Let Oj crawl back into the hole he came out of. If the attention goes away, maybe he will too.. The only book I will ever buy concerning him would be titled " Why I should be thrown into a wood chipper feet first" by OJ Simpson.
