International Emmys held in NYC

International Emmy AwardsAfter Steven Spielberg talked about network responsibility and his joy of doing miniseries, he picked up a Founders Award at the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences' Emmy presentation last night in New York. What are the International Emmys, you're asking? They honor shows that are produced outside the United States.

Considering no one here at TVS or most of you have ever heard of them before, I'm pretty sure they don't quite hold the prestige of the U.S. Emmys or whatever the Emmy equivalent is in other countries. But at least it's a chance for people to get dressed up in evening wear and applaud each other. The entertainment industry doesn't have nearly enough of stuff like that (can you hear my eyes rolling as I typed that?).

Anyway, most of the big awards went to British shows, with Little Britain winning for Best Comedy and Life on Mars winning for Best Drama. One of the few non-Brits to win was Maryam Hassouni, for the Dutch TV series Offers. The Founders Award that Spielberg picked up was for his producing work on shows and miniseries like ER, Animaniacs, Band of Brothers, and Amazing Stories (well, maybe not the last one, but I just wanted to see if people were paying attention).
