Veronica Mars: Lord of the Pi's

(S03E08) We've known about this episode for quite some time now -- the Patty Hearst episode. Thankfully she didn't really have a whole lot of air time, because she's not an actress and, well, it showed. I mean, she wasn't horrible, just not great.

Speaking of Patty Hearst (I mean, Selma Rose), there was one mini-mystery I didn't much care for other than two details from it:

  • Dean O'Dell is even closer to the Mars family now, having quite a bit of success using Keith to help him out, being to their apartment, etc. It could definitely make for an interesting future for the series with the Dean actually liking Veronica rather than wishing she'd stay out of his hair.
  • Selma Rose's vote to get rid of fraternities on campus.

Other than that, could you really have cared less for that storyline? If I wasn't so afraid of missing something, I might have just fast-forwarded through those scenes.

Random fact: My wife pointed out one useless bit of knowledge about this episode: Charles Shaughnessy from Days Of Our Lives and The Nanny played Selma's wheelchair-bound husband. I told you it was useless.

Logan has a point with Veronica pulling a Buffy -- being stubborn, pushing people who love her (and she loves?) away when they're looking out for her. I understand she's got a little baggage, but isn't the whole not trusting anyone getting a tad old? If you ask me, she seems to be trusting the wrong people every season. Maybe once Veronica finds the one who she truly loves, she'll finally let her guard down. Judging by the final scene of this episode, it doesn't look like it's Logan.

Did anyone else feel a little lack of closure with Veronica confronting the feminazis in the dorm room? They seem to accept that several rapes were faked, and then Veronica seems to just leave without that question being answered. If the girls did stage all the rapes, isn't Veronica a teensy bit pissed that someone drugged her and lopped some of her hair off?

Speaking of Veronica, she seemed like she was on something tonight. Just outright acting silly-odd, dancing around with some pretty lame jokes. Maybe some after-effects from when she was drugged? Maybe the writer for this episode was on something?

Judging by scenes for next week, the Greeks seem to throw a going away bash and, as promised, we'll learn the identity of the rapist. And someone will die. But who?

Dick: "So not only did Chip get Kojaked, but someone put a little Roman numeral on one of those plastic Easter eggs and stuck it in his ... where the sun don't shine place. You know where that is."
Veronica: "Worst. Easter Egg Hunt. Ever."

I'm loving the bit of Veronica whipping out song lyrics to make a joke. And I loved that little dance of her's right outside the dumpster.

Pinball Wizard:
DICK: What the hell, Bonnie?!
BONNIE: That's exactly what I was thinking. Another cute frat boy. What the hell?
DICK: You realize you're worth, like, half the points now. You went from top shelf to bargain basement in, like, three seconds!
BONNIE: It was more like the third-floor bathroom to the pinball machine in, like, forty-seven minutes.
VERONICA: She always gets a replay. Never tilts at all.

James Taylor:
VERONICA: As we speak. We found the perfect eyewitness to the "kidnapping."
WALLACE: That's not me, is it?
VERONICA: Whatever happened to "winter, spring, summer, or fall; all I got to do is call, and you'll be there"?
WALLACE: Man, all my orifices just went on lockdown.

Ok the Logan look at the end of the episode when Veronica didn't pick up her phone - Bravo, Mr Dohring. It had me hating Veronica in a second.

But anyways, Going behind Veronica's back to higher the body guard was just wrong. Not to metion it scared the crap outta her.

Just a though - do American's say "Piss off"? Because its the first time i've heard someone say thet. I always thought it was a British expression (being a Brit myself). Add to that, having Dick say something about shoving the egg up his "Bum", in a very Dick Van Dyke British accent, it makes me think, is there a Brit on the writing staff??

Anyways, totally off the point. Apart from the crappy mini-mystery of the week, I liked the episode. I loved how Veronica went to the Femanists at the end of the episode and told them that faking rape's dameged their case. It really makes you wonder how much was faked?

Other that that it was nice to see Wallace back in action. However it did make me miss the old days when Wallace was more than just a fly-by appearence, you know, when the charater *acctually* mattered. Since when did the show become the LoVe One Tree Hill Saga??

Certainly one of the funniest episodes ever. I'm now convinced Dick cannot be unfunny. "Keister egg" indeed. "Unpack his suitcase". Way too many funny bits in the first 30 minutes to keep track of.

Yeah, the actress that played Ms. Hearst stank. Only part of the show that dragged.

The Lebowski/Citezen Kane "tribute" - I actually liked it. Pretty clever stuff.

I like Logan better when he is in trouble. When he and V are dating...bleh. He's boring.

So, the feminazis did it, or did they? Were they responsible for the kiester-egg? I was a little unclear. Maybe I need to re-watch.

Someone gonna die? I vote Mac - she has been MIA for sometime yet the next episode clearly showed her. So sad, but time to die, girlfirend of Napoleon Dynamite!

As someone pointed out on the TWoP forums: Budd and Selma Rose-->Budd Rose-->Rosebud-->Citizen Kane-->William Randolph Hearst-->Patty Hearst. That was nice.

I also call for "Wrecked 'im" being the quite of the week.

Oh, and poor Logan! Can he ever have a girlfriend who actually cares more about him than he does about her? First Lilly, and now Veronica--he's always left like the little puppy, begging for affection. He was so right in his confrontation with her--You won't change, but you want me to--and it seemed to get him what he wanted to hear. But his face at the end? Yikes. He looked about 14 years old. Poor baby.
