Desperate Housewives: The Miracle Song

by Jen Creer, posted Nov 26th 2006 10:27PM
Desperate Houswives(S03E10) A couple of weeks ago, a commenter suggested that maybe Art's half-naked pictures of the boys in his basement were pictures of the kids on his swim team. That is exactly the explanation his sister offered for them in this episode. Do you think that is accurate?

He explained why the toys were missing from his basement last week by saying that he had donated them to charity, and that story checked out, but he could have decided to do that after Lynette found the pictures and basement. And why remove the pictures, if they are so innocent? On the one hand, his sister knew about the pictures; but ,had she actually seen them? Or did Art give her his version of what they were? After all, they were in the basement, his sister appears to be dependent on her wheelchair, and I didn't see a ramp to the basement. On the other hand, those kids in those pictures didn't look like they were proudly displaying their swimming accomplishments, nor did they appear to be in swimsuits or in a swim team scenario. And maybe I am just saying that because my son is on our local swim team.

This episode raises several compelling questions: Do parents have the upper ground? Is drawing conclusion justifiable with the excuse of better safe than sorry without further evidence, if it means a man is losing his job and being completely ostracized by his community? Does Art's as-good-as-confession change the fact that before that conversation, we didn't know for sure what was going on?

Edie did a pretty satisfying job of raking Mike over the coals about the toolbox. That was surprising, because I would have expected nothing less than total support and loyalty from Edie. Then, boom! Fair weather Edie. That was great. Wasn't that precious when Susan said, "You can't let your love for a man blind you to cold-hearted facts"? Hmmm.... does blood on a wrench that matches the victim's blood count as a cold-hearted fact, or is that some other kind of fact?

I apologize for my snide Republican comments last week; I should confine my remarks specifically to Bree, and not a group she happens to belong to. As it happens, perhaps they are not going to work Bree's pregnancy into the show. Mike's arrest turns out to be great news for Orson, doesn't it? Did Orson maybe run Mike over because he knew Mike was guilty? Whoa! Orson was hospitalized for depression. Interesting; I wonder what age that was? Did anybody see what year that was? It looked like his mother faked his being sent to boarding school when he was in the hospital instead. So, is that what she's holding over him? When it seems perfectly likely that she put him there? I am sure more will be revealed. It's so nice to see Orson's past finally come leaking through the cracks in his carefully laid foundation. I know this is immature, but I just want to say I told you Orson didn't kill his wife.

Do you think Ian is being unreasonable? Is he going to break up with his comatose wife? He is making some pretty hefty claims on Susan's attentions for a married guy. I can understand his jealousy, but I think that is going a little far. It doesn't matter; of course, Susan won't keep her promises. But that's okay! It keeps life interesting, doesn't it?

Speaking of interesting, there is a reason I haven't mentioned the Gaby storyline from this episode. Yawn. Manipulating pre-pubescent girls, while acting like one, is pretty pathetic. Eva Longoria is such a talented actress; raise your hand if you're hoping they will give her a more interesting storyline soon.

Hey lanaweber, jeez, I think Teri Hatcher is a beauty, I just don't like her hair all scraggly looking! I think it looks so much better a little shorter, she certainly can carry shorter hair!! ~IMHO~

>>16. Didn't Bree meet Orson when she checked herself into the mental hospital?? Was he a patient there?

No, he was visiting some woman. My question...Who the hell was she? (!) I was thinking with Monique dead it might be his wife that he secretly smuggled away to the insane asylum and didn't want to talk about, but apparently it wasn't her either... so who is it?

I agree with version2.0 that the writers are doing better this season. They must have realized part way through that the Alfre Woodard story line was a big letdown after how well-crafted the first season was and they took pains to not only introduce Orson early, but screw with us a little (after he ran over Mike I was like...no watch out Susan! And by Susan, I mean Bree...)

Lynette...I do believe that her boss has given her some time off in order to recover from the whole shooting incident. That was stated in either the episode right after the shoot out, or in last week's episode. There was a scene when Lynette was outside by her car, talking on her cell, then telling Tom that her boss, Ed, gave her time off.

Anyway, last nite's episode was fantastic! What a way to go out on hiatus for the holidays!

Art's scenes were fantastic! And when it reached a climax in the final scene with Lynette...great great GREAT! Can't wait for the new year!! Oh, and yes...Lynette finally realizing that her self-righteousness can sometimes lead her in the wrong direction and just might lead to her own self-destruction one day. But, I do love her, she's amazing!

Bree, fantastic as always! There's a reason she's my favorite! I love how Mama Hodge and she play off one another! They're a great match! I also love how the cracks from Orson's past are starting to show more and more as the season progresses. The mysteries surrounding his past are becoming more complex and interesting.

Last nite when I saw that scene with Lynette & Art it made my jaw drop, then a minute later, when they showed that Alma was still alive, my jaw sank even further! The writers have done an amazing job this season!

Gabby's storyline is the one that is suffering this season, but she does her thing. It was cute.

Susan...I like how hers and Brees' storylines are colliding. That poker scene cat fight was delicious! I love it when the women are in conflict with one another! That "survivor" comment by Bree (directed at Susan) was hilarious! Oh, and that scene where Bree's sigh of relief ("Oh, thank God!") when she finds out that Mike was arrested for the murder of Monique, was hilarious! Bree's sigh of relief in front of Susan then that sudden moment of regret...funny stuff!!

Back to Susan, I hope she stays with Ian. He's great. And I'm glad that he's given Susan that ultimatum. He's found a way to get Mike out of Susan's life and, perhaps, ours. Mike needs to just die or something. I am SO glad that Edie dumped his a$$!

The writers have def. gotten back on track and found their stride this season. So far, an amazing season! They have us wrapped around their fingers...we're hooked. This episode was a great early Christmas present. :)

Teri Hatcher is gorgeous, and her hair is great. I wonder how many of you desktopic critics could do better than Mark Cherry or are more beautiful than Terry Hatcher? LOL I'm just glad it's a real show not some wife swapping, karaoke singing, worm eating, belching teen pop idol, crappola that passes for reality. My reality is nothing like that thank -you. DH ROCKS!

I really like Lynette's role! She sometimes teaches us a lesson. Or does she? Impressionable 18 and 19 year old college students are watching this!
Alma? Is she from the first episodes I have missed? Is she the one who everyone persumes is dead?

Jen, don't beat yourself up about the Rebuplican remark...it was F-U-N-N-Y.

Orson was 17 when he went he was hospitalized.

Teri hatcher should cut her hair, it's looking like a nest of split endz.

Cold Case wasn't on last night, but I would have watched it if it were. These story lines are slow and boring.
