For Ed Begley Jr., life is a reality show

Ed Begley Jr.Add Ed Begley Jr. to the ever-growing list of Hollywood stars with their own reality series. The former St. Elsewhere star, and current obsessed eco-nut committed environmentalist will be starring with wife and actress Rachelle Carson in a new series for HGTV called Living With Ed.

According to our friends at sister site AutoblogGreen, the new show (which premieres January 7th at 10:00 pm) will be set in the couple's entirely solar-powered, eco-friendly home. You'll be able to watch as Ed times his wife's shower with a stopwatch while gently chiding her over how many gallons of water she has wasted. You'll also be able to see how Begley rides a stationary bike in order to power his toaster. He will also be giving tips to the viewers on how to make their living areas more environmentally safe and energy efficient.

Apparently, the humor will come from the differing opinions that Begley and wife Rachelle have about their current living conditions. According to the show's press release it seems that Carson is not as committed to being eco-friendly as her husband is. She wants a more normal existence with a bigger house and the ability to shower without a stopwatch. Hopefully, after this show airs there won't be a new reality series called Divorce With Ed.

I wish that some Hollywood actors would stop riding on this current Mark Burnett trend by starting their own reality shows. It doesn't work for everybody! I don't know why HGTV wants to jump into the reality business just because it's been successful on other networks. And Ed Begley needs to get his own show, maybe produce or create his own comedy or drama for TV. But I don't know if the viewing public will even watch Ed after a long, 18-year hiatus since St. Elsewhere.
