Glenn Close signs on for FX pilot

A season squaring off with Michael Chiklis on The Shield must have whetted Glenn Close's appetite to do edgy series TV. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Close has signed on to star in her first TV pilot, a legal drama for FX.The pilot is the creation of Glenn Kessler, Todd A. Kessler, and Daniel Zelman. The Kesslers worked together on the short-lived Robbery Homicide Division, and Todd wrote and produced for The Sopranos. The series, yet to be titled, will have Close playing Patty Hughes, a famous litigator who always works on high-profile cases.
This should be interesting. We really haven't seen much of Close on the big screen lately -- some small character roles, voice acting, but that's about it, although she's set to star in a movie version of Sunset Boulevard -- and her turn on The Shield was very well received, getting her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Given the trend of aging movie actors landing meaty roles on TV, it makes me start to wonder who will be next. Susan Sarandon, maybe?
