Day Break vs. ... One Tree Hill?

by Brett Love, posted Dec 1st 2006 4:15PM
One Tree HillAt the beginning of the season I wrote about the battle between Lost and Criminal Minds on Wednesday at 9. That has turned into quite the contest. As Lost wrapped up their fall mini-season Criminal Minds had taken the overall viewers lead, while Lost held on to the coveted 18-49 demo crown. We've also talked about the ratings train wreck that ABC's Wednesday night has become since the departure of Dancing with the Stars and Lost.

But now, things are just getting ridiculous. Any thoughts of competing with Criminal Minds, or anything on NBC or Fox, have long since passed. This week, not only did Day Break fall below 5 million viewers (what I am now considering the Mendoza line for the big networks), but the 1.8 rating the show got in the 18-49 demo was tied with One Tree Hill on the CW. Good grief, from battling over slots in the top ten to hoping that you edge out the teen drama on the CW. Ouch. That's a hell of a way to cap off your sweeps run.

It's an interesting story to follow, made all the more so by the fact that Day Break is actually a pretty good show. I didn't expect to see it develop a Lost like following, but why 12 or 13 million people have tuned out boggles me. It seems like ABC is committed to running the whole series, ratings be damned, but I guess we can stop speculating what a season two of Day Break would be like.

DAYBREAK Is A Downright Very Good Show. I have Watched it from the Beginning Premiere and Video Taped Every One of them including the Two Hour Premiere. After Reading this News Today (December 16th 2006) that the Daybreak show was Canceled right away and it is NOT Coming Back Next Week Like the Preview said it was AND what was going to take the place of it was some RUNDOWN RERUNS of some Comedy Shows!! This Really SUCKS Big Time Cause You Finally Get into a Really Good Show and it does NOT have Enough RATINGS and Gets Casnceled. Who Does the Ratings AND HOW CAN I JOIN, So We Can Keep the Really Good Shows From Getting Canceled like ""DAYBREAK"" which By the Way I Think Deserves 10 Stars or more. In alot of Ways I like the Show better than Law and Order and ot some of the CSI shows cause it has alot more mystery in not knowing what Brett Harper is going to get into each of the days, since he is the only one in the show who remembers the things that go on in each of the early morning segments!!! Cause of this I do think that this Show is Very Well Written. I do Hope that this one acticle I was Reading that maybe you will be able to watch the Rest of the Episodes Online at ABC since all together they made 13 episodes!!!

I love this show and have since the first episode. It is actually really well written. The only reason I can think of for the low ratings is the fact that viewers are asked to believe the unbelievable, which makes the show a bit sci-fi I guess. Hopefully ABC will at least run the 13 episodes..

Daybreak hasn't been thought of as a long running series since the network picked it up. It's been a 13 episode idea since the beginning. The troubling thing is that it may not even make it through it's 13.

Day Break is a good show, but no 2nd Season might not be a bad thing. It's the kind of show that works once, but if they tried to milk a second season out of it without really having a good way to continue through, it would really suck. Then again, that's what I said about Prison Break and the second season is great...

'One Tree Hill' is a guilty pleasure of mine, and has been for the past 3+ seasons. While 'The O.C.' has come and gone (wait, is it still on?) 'OTH' has risen to the top of the teen pact, as 'Veronica Mars' isn't even in the same category (if you wish to argue this, than you need some more schooling as 'VM' is a noir classic in the making). 'OTH', even with it's flaws, has enjoyable characters, twists, young actors that breathe life into the scenes, and keeps you watching. The music keeps the show moving forward, and is very engaging. I challenge anyone to watch an episode, including the Squad reporters and give it another shot. You will definitely be suprised. This week's episode was definitely a cliffhanger that left me with my jaw on the floor... and I'm a 26 year old guy.

Ouch! I also don't understand. Day Break is just plain great TV. Lost meets 24. Anyway, I don't really care who's watching as long as they don't cancel it! I don't want a second season, I want this season to go and end well. That's actually why I started watching it. When I read that it was going to be 11-13 episodes self-contained, that got me. I mean, after the slow pace and unanswered questions of Lost, it will be nice to have a series close and answer all my questions.

One Tree Hill is a really good show. Altough i haven't been watching any of the Daybreak episodes, OTH is good is u guys give it a try. By the way... why isn't anyone in this website doing any review on one tree hill??? I mean, if any one in this website is willing to do a review on The OC, Veronica Mars, and 7th Heaven, then why not on One Tree Hill??? Just give it a try.

Day Break is so much better than I expected. Filling in for Lost was great...Day Break actually gives answers each episode and for once I can be sure I'll get the answer soon. However this doesn't mean i don't like Lost anymore, you still have to like Lost!

watch Day Break, people!

Kyle,

It's just my opinion, of course, but as I posted above I think it's far better than I expected it to be and certainly better than any other groundhog day kind of premise. Why not watch the first episode or two and judge for yourself?
