Britain's Next Top Model to air on CW

by Julia Ward, posted Dec 2nd 2006 8:05PM
UK Next Top ModelAmerican viewers will get a peek at the UK's version of Next Top Model in two British Invasion highlight specials to be aired on the CW on December 13th and 20th. The British version of the popular modeling competition features challenges similar to its US counterpart - physically trying photo shoots, model calls and catwalk throw-downs.

Each of the specials will collapse an entire "cycle" of the show so we'll get to see the introductions, makeovers, cringe-inducing acting forays and crowning of Britain's next top model in one two hour span. We'll also get to see Cycle One host Lisa Butcher replaced by Cycle Two host Lisa Snowden thanks to Lisa Number One's lame, wooden performance. This reverses the tactic taken by the show's US cousin which replaced lunatic judge Janice Dickinson with the lame, wooden Twiggy.

Has anyone seen the UK version? Modeling is an international industry so we can be sure that its ills - the eating disorders, the out-sized personalities and the jealousy - have made the leap over the pond. Miss Jay, though, may be an American original.

Well at least they don't look like air brushed barbie dolls.

That's a ridiculous comment, not all British people have bad teeth. I think Lianna from BNTM cycle 2 is absolutely beautiful. In my opinion she is far more attractive than a lot of the contestants in ANTM. Not to mention that she's nicer too.

Just what we need, super skiny "models" with bad teeth.

Australia's version of this show is better. The UK version splits the show into pure "confessional" only segments which tends to be really boring.

TAR Asia is awesome, mainly because its the same race but the contestants take a whole different tack in how they play it. Of course, they casted a couple of publicity seeking morons like Aubrey Miles, which was a bad idea. But I'm sure it did get more people to tune in for this first season form those "celebs" (use of that word is very loose) respective countries. So I am ok with anything that brings a second season. Phil is still the best TAR host though.

I just wish Bravo would air Project Catwalk (UK's Project Runway) and CBS would show The Amazing Race Asia after the season's up. The only thing about TAR Asia is that not having Phil at the finish line to Philiminate you just isn't the same.
