What About Brian: What About First Steps

Krista Allen and Barry Watson in 'What About Brian.'(S02E07) Lately I feel like a broken record when I talk about this show. I still love it, but you have to agree with me here -- things are feeling a bit stale. There are a few things I want to discuss, but before I dive into that, I've noticed a lot of commenters asking about the show's theme song lately. It's titled "Calling All Friends" and it's by some small band called Low Stars. I've never heard of them before and wasn't able to find a site where you can download an MP3 of the tune, but then again I didn't try too hard. So if anyone knows a site, please fill everyone else in. However, you can stream the whole song from the band's MySpace page if you're dying to hear the entire thing.

OK, first up is Adam and Heather. I really liked what they did here. The quickie wedding, not telling everyone. But here's the thing: we all know it's not going to last. So when they broached the topic of getting an annulment in this episode, I was psyched. I said to myself, "Wow. They're really going to wrap this up logically and in a timely fashion so that it doesn't drag out." Wrong. I went from satisfied to completely frustrated. There is no reason for this go on for another episode. They made up and now we have to watch it go south again. Pointless.

Of course this is setting something up if you ask me. Brian, while moving slowly, is making progress with Bridget. It looks like they'll end up together for a while anyway. But we know that Marjorie is coming back, at least according to this post from Ausiello at TV Guide. Now the obvious feel good reason for her return would her realizing that she's in love with Brian. She comes back, Brian is in bed with Bridget, and surprise! Adam is single again after his fresh split with Heather leaving him wide open to make a play for Marjorie... which will probably happen. There's your mid-season cliffhanger right there.

Beyond Brian and Adam, the rest of the show seems inconsequential as it stands currently. Nic's story is a lost cause if you ask me. Dave and Deena are going through the same things week in and week out and don't even get me started on the whole cupcake thing. This is the stale stuff I was referring to. Not to mention that the addition of Jimmy and Ivy to the cast has really done nothing. They're barely around.

I just get very frustrated when shows I love start to show signs of blandness. Here's the broken record playing again, but Marjorie needs to make her return and ASAP because I honestly don't know what else can give this show the jolt is so badly needs.

I still like the show in a lame kinda way-what else is a person like me going to watch who has never seen a CSI or an episode of Lost? I'm sick of reality shows, so this fits me nicely. Having Brian be in real estate is a loser story imo.

Just like actual strippers everywhere, Heather is an incredible natural beauty, has had no plastic surgery, is sweet and intelligent, doesn't do drugs, isn't promiscuous, has no violent ex-boyfriends, has no deep psychological issues, and genuinely loves the wealthy man she's with.

Oh, sorry, I meant like TV strippers everywhere. But go ahead, guys, take this show's advice and marry an exotic dancer -- you'll be glad you did!
