Rebecca Romijn joins cast of Ugly Betty

by Julia Ward, posted Dec 7th 2006 1:25PM
Rebecca RomijnIt's official and, perhaps, a bit ironic. The show with the hottest cast on television is Ugly Betty. Gentlemen, there will be no need to despair when Salma Hayek's character arc has come and gone. Rebecca Romijn will be holding the va-va-va-voom quotient steady at the Mode offices.

Romijn has been cast to play the "mystery woman" that Wilhelmina has been conspiring with to take over the magazine. We have no reason to think that this "mystery woman" is anyone other than Mode's back-from-the-dead editor Fey, but it's a soap opera. If the show's own press releases insist on referring to her only as the "mystery woman," than we'll humor them. We've already seen the character Romijn will be playing on the show, but she's been covered in surgical gauze and shot in silhouette. A different actress has been providing the character's voice. My assumption has always been that Wilhelmina's conspirator was much older than Romijn, which just goes to show the wonders of reconstructive surgery.

I think that whoever "Ugly Betty" casts....the show will be great no matter what. I don't have anything against Rebecca Romijn. I liked her in the X-Men movies. I really love that Salma Hayek is in some of the episodes because I just love her. "Ugly Betty" is definitely a new show that has excelled and will definitely be around for a few seasons at least. "Ugly Betty" has been nominated for a People's Choice Award. You can still vote for "Ugly Betty" at http://www.pcavote.com I already voted for "Ugly Betty" because I work with the People's Choice Community. Show some support for the show and vote! Don't forget to tune in to see if they win on Jan. 9 on CBS at 9pm. =0)

My initial reaction was that it was a casting mistake. But, those folks at UB are pretty damn good - whatever they decide I'm sure it will be great judging from their work so far. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

I forgot to mention that Matt gave that bit of information in the comments section.

At TVGuide.com, Matt Mitovich stated that the mystery woman may not have been Fey all along. Here's the link: http://community.tvguide.com/thread.jspa?threadID=700014068#comments

Well, old men have mistresses all the time.

And that's about the only way this casting would work. Maybe the plastic surgery's supposed to utterly de-age her?

I think that her young looks are maybe due to the reconstructive surgery?

And/Or maybe they'll use makeup to age her somewhat.

I hope she's not playing Fey. she better be playing another character because there's no way that anyone would believe she's that old (Fey is Daniel's dad's mistress after all, and the actress providing her voice has been an old lady...or at least sounded like an old lady).

Horrible choice, horrible actress. Just see Pepper Dennis for proof...

So we're supposed to believe that Wilhemina is for some reason so loyal and in service to a character that is both younger and hotter than her? That is NOT keeping in her character - she would not be faithful or even like a younger, hotter, more powerful woman than her....
