Prince to perform at Super Bowl

by Anna Johns, posted Dec 11th 2006 8:14AM
princePrince has agreed to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in February. This is actually a safe choice after Janet's breasts in 2004 and the Rolling Stones' bleeped-out performance earlier this year. The old Prince might've been a problem for censors, but the new Prince is squeaky clean. He's a Jehovah's Witness who refuses to perform any of his kinkier material (the song "Cream" comes to mind).

The Super Bowl is Sunday, February 4th in Miami. Once again, it will air on CBS.

I just want to strike a note here of a different chord. Prince is a genuine superstar who gives an electrifying concert performance. Every night he's on stage, he gives it his all. He doesn't lip-synch. He doesn't stand at a microphone stand and barely move around. He has the ability to play each and every one of the instruments on stage...and often does. He is the consumate performer's performer and the world will witness that in February...assuming they're not on a halftime bathroom break.

"Cream" isn't a dirty song. It's about being the best (cream rises to the top).

Right Mike, the list you just posted were the good selections the NFL has made. Who do you think ought to be playing to a crowd that runs the age range from 8 to 80+?

I love the NFL, but they have a tin ear when it comes to selecting entertainment for the super bowls and other events. Aside form U2 and JJ, they've had:
paul mccartney
the rolling stones
bon jovi
aerosmith
now prince

That really doesn't keep me watching at half time.
