Pauly Shore gets punched - VIDEO

by Adam Finley, posted Dec 12th 2006 5:21PM

pauly shoreAt a recent gig at the 8th Street Comedy Club in Odessa, Texas, comedian Pauly Shore, who last thrilled television audiences as "The Weasel" on MTV in the '90s before moving on to a movies of dubious quality, was punched by a guy in a cowboy hat (clip, after the jump, contains swearing). I'll let you guys have at it in the comments about whether or not Shore deserved the beating based solely on not being especially funny.

My take on it? Comedy club audiences often contain some of the most ill-mannered, self-centered assclowns on the planet. I've been to my share of comedy clubs, and every time there's a group of people talking during a comedian's set. The logic seems to be that it's better to pay twenty-five bucks to converse in a venue where talking is frowned upon rather than going to a restaurant where you can run your mouth all you wish. Also, the people who go to comedy clubs often have no idea who the comedian is they'll be seeing, they just want to see a comedy show, so the comedian ends up playing to a room in which half the people have come just to see him, and the rest are people who are indifferent or only half interested.

Finally, notice that a policeman (or some security guard) gets on the stage and drags the man away AFTER the man punches Shore in the head. That policeman should have pulled the man away the second the man stood up and started walking toward the stage.

UPDATE: According to Joel, Jim Breuer spoke with Odessa police on his satellite radio program and they told him that the fight was staged.

Illmannered, self-centered assclowns? Some things are all done in good fun ALAN. And for your information, Travis... the guy who agreed to do this skit, is one of the nicest guys in the world. People should know all the details before they start speaking, or in your case writing, in my opinion.

completely staged, Pauly's head starts going down well before the punch gets there.

It didn't look staged to me. I've seen his comedy act. It's very subtle, dry humor--not like his smiley wisecracking persona in the movies at all. I can see a room full of 'get-r-dun' types applauding the punch.

The whole thing seems very staged. That guy has a wind up you can see down 5th Ave. Plus nobody stops the guy before he hits Paully. But I guess the more important question is, why? Is this something that Paully does to get him off the stage if he's bombing? Can Paully Shore just go away now.
