Rick Santorum weighing a future with Fox

by Julia Ward, posted Dec 12th 2006 12:28PM
Rick SantorumYou just suffered the largest defeat by a Senate incumbent in a quarter of a century. What are you going to do now? Disneyland? Heck no. You're gonna do television. U.S. Senator Rick Santorum is in negotiations with Fox News Channel to appear as one of the network's political analysts or, as an undisclosed source told Patriot News, to be a "screamer."

Defeated by Democrat Bob Casey Jr. in last month's election, Santorum has been weighing his post-Congressional career. He'll be making the rounds on the conservative lecture circuit, and deals with CNN, MSNBC and Fox have all been mentioned. Fox, not unexpectedly, is leading the rumor pack. The Pennsylvania Republican is an extremely divisive and vocal figure - having made public statements comparing homosexuality to bestiality and pedophilia and suggesting that Hurricane Katrina victims be penalized for trying to ride out the storm rather than vacating New Orleans earlier. On the less easily reviled side, the last bill he authored dedicates $945 million to autism research.

Should Santorum sign with Fox, they'll probably have to do something about his web presence. The first thing you get when you google Santorum's last name is sex advice columnist Dan Savage's approved definition of "santorum" - "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex." Ewww.

I really don't care what Santorum does now, but what's irritating is that every single time the phrase "Fox News" is mentioned on TVSquad you hear tons of squawking about, "fake news" "faux news", etc.

Apparently the whiners don't realize that there's no such thing as real news that's not slanted one way or the other, but those same whiners remain suspiciously silent when CNN or MSNBC or CBS news is mentioned. C'mon guys, where's the droning about those networks, or do you actually believe they're non-biased?

I guess there's only one dead horse you like to beat and never seem to tire of the constant droning. How mundane.

So, the question is: will he do more damage to America by working at Fox or at a K Street lobbying firm?

Personally, I think he should do neither and create his own reality show where he moves in with a whacky gay couple. Oh, the sparks! The ratings!

Talk about brain washed. The right brain washed the country into thinking we had to attack Iraq, with Fox News leading the charge. And the entire Republican party was brain washed into thinking Bush was the greatest thing ever.
As for Santorum, here is what he said just before voting to amend the constitution to ban gay marriage: "I would argue that the future of our country hangs in the balance because the future of marriage hangs in the balance. Isn't that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?"

you libs are all full of hatred:
1) the man does not screem. obvious you have NEVER heard him speak before
2) he's never said the greatest threat was gay marriage. Nice try.
3) graduated at the top of his class at penn state, so obviously not dumb
4) without fox news, we'd all be brainwashed like the rest of you

Ever since I heard that term on the great-yet-cancelled Martin Sargent show, I haven't been able to take the former Senator seriously at all... Then again, he was rather unknown to me at the time anyways.

Still, he wasn't defeated by a deceased opponent like Ashcroft was. Now that is what I would call a humiliating defeat...

It's not so much his views I don't like (although I don't); it's that I don't particularly think the news media needs any more "screamers."

At some point the FCC should force Fox News to drop the "News" since they don't broadcast news and have them change it to "Fox Propaganda".

Really? He understand threats? He came out and said the greatest risk to this country wasn't a terror attack or North Korea or Iran making nukes, it was gay marriage. There are dozens of sites with page and pages of quotes from him. He is one of the dumbest people ever in the Senate (that says a lot) and he should fit right into Fox "News" Channel.

Say what you will about his domestic policy, his views on the growing threat overseas is spot on.

CNN would be wise to lure him over to their channel to move slightly to the center. That's if they ever hope to contend with FNC. (Insert CNN leftist agenda joke here.)
