The Daily Show: December 11, 2006

Jon Stewart"Indie Rock": The Seminole tribe are taking over the Hard Rock Cafe chain. Fun Fact: Smallpox jokes are still too soon... Apparently. Fun Fact 2: Korn (or... Maize) fans are still alive and well.

"That's All Folks!": The 109th Congress is finished! Hurrahs all around in the Daily Show crowd. I liked the little montage at the end (Katherine Harris: Still haunts the dreams of children). The bit with Lincoln Chafee, the night's guest, was a special treat.

"The Oliver English Dictionary": John Oliver stopped by to examine the phrase "lame duck", which the press has been using to describe Bush quite a bit lately. I took the time to read the fake dictionary page and got quite a laugh out of it... "The Oliver English Dictionary: A reference guide; a hearty stew made with carrots and an entire pineapple; a mediocre handjob." It was yet another great segment by Mr. Oliver.

The night's guest was Senator Lincoln Chafee (Rhode Island). The lunch table bit was really, really sad. Capitol Hill sounds like middle school. The interview was pretty interesting, though. I liked hearing about Chafee's point-of-view. He was depressingly honest, heh.

Jon/Stephen: Weird, weird toss-over. Moment of Zen: Seminoles just wanna rock.

I still Tivo it but end up fast forwarding through 75% of it. Colbert Report is the better show.

What is with the new obession with ducks on the show? It's like they spent a lot of money on the duck graphic for the Vilsack! segment and then wanted to get the most out of it. Which may indeed by the case. But I like the idea of John Oliver having a trademark segment a la This Week in God (which was undeniably Stephen Colbert's).
