(S06E03) I know I said last week's episode of Scrubs felt almost normal, but that was before I saw this week's episode. After a few weeks of baby-centric episodes we got back to the day-to-day antics of Sacred Heart. All in all, it was a good one. Not belly-laugh funny as last week, and certainly not as, um, bad, as the season premiere. There was just some solid storytelling, a few good laughs, and new character development.
What I liked most about this week's episode was that there was finally some decent interaction between J.D. and Turk. During the first two weeks there was barely any connection between the two, and this is a pair of friends who could compete in the man-love contest against Boston Legal's Denny Crane and Alan Shore. Yes, The season premiere was a focus on J.D. and his discovery that he would be a father, and last week was about Turk and Carla's new baby. During those episodes I missed the camaraderie that these two have shown over the last five seasons, and it was good to have it back this week.
Moving on, I'd like to know if it's me or has Elliot always been this distant from the rest of her friends. It seems that over the last few weeks she has had very little interaction with J.D., Turk and Carla. Sure, she was there for Carla during the birth episode, but other than that Elliot has been in very few scenes with the rest of them. And, if the storyline introduced this week bears any fruit, she may get farther away from them. It seems that Dr. Reid impressed a private practice physician who happened to be her patient. So much so that he offered her a position at his practice. This would allow her to remain at Sacred Heart but not be under the thumb of one Perry Cox. She accepted, much to the chagrin of Dr. Cox. I wonder if this will be a throw-away plot line or something more permanent.
Speaking about new story lines, it looks like J.D. may be losing Kim, since she has accepted a new position up in Tacoma, Washington. My guess is that Kim will leave (no disappointment on my part) and J.D. will either be written as despondent, on the rebound, or determined to get to Tacoma. Who knows, if this is the last season of Scrubs the final episode may be a reunion of Kim and J.D. at the Space Needle.
I briefly want to touch on the whole plot about the new coffee franchise opening in the hospital by mentioning one word: smokachino. Caffeine and nicotine combined into a delicious beverage. Why Starbucks hasn't added this to their menu yet is beyond my imagination.
